I love it.

It's a 4 part story these albums, this is the introduction.

The theme (if there is an overt one) is that 'you can't win'...or that the idea of being 'the best' or is supremely futile and artistically constipating.

Getting over it, letting it go...you CAN'T control things...LOSE control and you can enjoy.

The record has an odd and unnerving vibe at the top, breaks in the middle (heavens end) then gets super chill. The control is huge, then spazzes, then gets pensive, gets medativite, has a breakthrough, then gets really simple for an ending.

It's a great disk to chill to...heavy as all hell in parts though.

Once folks hear it for what it IS as opposed to what it ISN'T I hope they will feel what I feel about it. (that, in itself, plays into the theme)

Then, the next record...we party...I start it next week. rvp is the drummer for that one.

Reading that.. then nursing a semi.

Same here. We have a pretty big rain deficit here in Florida.

Cool, I'm glad you looked into it. May I ask which songs you heard?
So if your really used to listening to grunt-vocals (or whatever you might call it), Steven Wilson's voice is going to sound really soft and feminine in comparison - which it is! BUT, I personally, think that's a a nice feature, since you have this heavy music that is at times really intricate and substantial... with the juxtaposition of a sweet tenor voice over the top. I think it's good contrast.

Now im certainly not opposed to softer vocals, but his just didnt tickle my fancy. i listened to all the songs they have on there from Fear of A Blanket whilst working online. Its not too bad, perhaps it has to grow on me like Devins music did

Understood - that's a whole different thing than. I knew this one dude who just didn't like them because the singer didn't sound like Mikael Akerfeldt... in which I thought he was being a bit narrow. But I get what you're saying. Good for you for trying it out though, usually.. I myself am too much of a musical elitist to bother with listening to most peoples' recommendations.

i used to be like that. i am EXTREMELY picky about music, but i also love it like nothing else. So i enjoy getting recomendations from people who like the same stuff as i, cause you never know when that next gem will come around. i am soooooo glad i listened to my friend and checked out Devin Townsend's solo stuff.

I watch MTV2, too. Scarred, Jackass, Wild Boys, Viva La Bam, and Headbanger's Ball on Saturday nights. I've seen Mastadon, Strapping Young Lad, Children of Bodom, Symphony X, and In Flames videos, just to name a few. Not too shabby!

Oh, and I'm posting this post whilst drinking Peach Mango V8 Fusion. Exciting.
