Alot of you seem to be into this Porcupine Tree. i may just have to check them out.

I consider them to be one of the best bands around.

Heavier material would be their newer CDs, and would include 'Deadwing,' 'Fear of a Blank Planet,' 'Futile EP.' 'In Absentia' is less heavy in parts, but is a consistently good album from start to finish, and incorporates some elements of their past musical style and their newer style.

And the early material really takes after Pink Floyd, very psychedelic; but not in a cheesy way. It's very prog. rockish, very free-flowing or 'experimental' at times.

There's a short synopsis of their catalog... now DIG IN!!! I don't think you'll be sorry.

I fucking love Porcupine Tree so much. Listen to this woman, Linchy, you will thank her for the rest of your life.

So if your really used to listening to grunt-vocals (or whatever you might call it), Steven Wilson's voice is going to sound really soft and feminine in comparison - which it is! BUT, I personally, think that's a a nice feature, since you have this heavy music that is at times really intricate and substantial... with the juxtaposition of a sweet tenor voice over the top. I think it's good contrast.

Now im certainly not opposed to softer vocals, but his just didnt tickle my fancy. i listened to all the songs they have on there from Fear of A Blanket whilst working online. Its not too bad, perhaps it has to grow on me like Devins music did

Understood - that's a whole different thing than. I knew this one dude who just didn't like them because the singer didn't sound like Mikael Akerfeldt... in which I thought he was being a bit narrow. But I get what you're saying. Good for you for trying it out though, usually.. I myself am too much of a musical elitist to bother with listening to most peoples' recommendations.

I'm not proud of that... it's a really shitty trait of mine.

I'm too addicted to music to be picky on what I check out. If I'm recommended something there's a DAMN good chance I'll be listening to it shortly.

That's good Alucard - you're probably much more open minded than I am!

Maybe I just know the wrong people - they seem to continually recommend things that disappoint. But then again, I'm very picky.

You know, as much as I enjoy music and think it's really important, I'm very discriminating with what I'll listen to.

I usually will check stuff out, but I'll usually turn it off before I'm halfway through one song. Oh well, even with high standards, I still have like, 8 thousand hours of music from finding the right things.
