And yes that's a shame about you being so far away, would be interesting to hear your vocals at some point - if they're anything like the man I need to hear them! :)

Clean vocals can be great, but when the music gets harder, like parts in your song for example, clean vocals begin to sound weak. Sure growl vocals might sound "cliche" for heavy music...but they just fit the mood and sound of the music better.

Otherwise, I really like the clean part that keeps repeating and some of the riffs. Wish you would bring the distorted guitar up in the mix though!

Hah, Periphery's "Intertia" they had on their myspace had vocals so much pitch corrected that it sounded like dude had severe hormonal problems. Though I have nothing against clean vocals, actually if you can't get decent growly ones, then go for clean (somehow I feel that finding decent harsh vocal is harder than finding decent clean one).

As for the song, it's cool, nice vintagey analog sounds.

Cheers :) and yes, we have a few people in mind who do nice clean vocals, we're also thinking of experimenting in a few alien-vocals, like some Gojira/ the Faceless. The best example of alien vocals are in Mastodon's Circle of Cysquatch - and we've got similar effects on Will's amp...

i think the vocal effects that Fear Factory uses in the beginning of Ascension off of Archetype would be perfect for your project

hey there, wizard joe

the synths are nice, and the riffing is also interesting, but the song doesn't seem to have much of a structure beyond alternating, different parts. if that's your intention, to make atmospheric, eclectic music that meanders from here to there, you should knit everything closer together. as of now, it sounds like you blended together different songs, because the sound differs so much from part to part.

also, the whole song suffers very much from the mix, if anything has been mixed here at all, that is. there'll be much more to get out of this if you take a time and work with it.
listen to the parts with the distorted guitars: when the snare drum is by far the loudest thing in the mix, you know there's still something to do. also, the clean guitars are much louder than the crunchy ones, that's something you might want to change, too.
a good guideline is to listen to the song from the room next door, that makes it easier to identify what stands out too much.

you might want to try putting a subtle layer of one and the same synth sound under the whole track, or use the same reverb setting on some tracks throughout the song in order to "glue it together". then, the drums could use some eq and compression tweaking (if you have them on seperate tracks), and you could double the crunchy guitar track. try a setting with less distortion and play it really really accurately several times. as of now, the guitar doesn't have the power do stand up next to the very loud (and nice) clean guitar or the drums.

the ideas in this song are pretty cool, very space-like and such. it wouldn't hurt to polish the whole thing a bit more.

Some very good advice, all appreciated. It hasn't really been mixed as we haven't really got any equipment :P all we're going by is audacity and cubase. It will be re-recorded and possibly re-written, but this is essentially just something to get our feet off of the ground :)

Thanks again for the advice (I even listened to it from the next room, and can indeed hear the issues). Cheers :)

Hey guys - just thought I'd let you know about a new song I've done. More to the point, less ambience (though I've not done in with the ambience in the project), more technical and a bit heavier.

Feel free to check it out on the myspace in my sig (Procyon B) - the track is Dark Matter Halo.

I've also uploaded it onto rapidshare, here -

Don't think I'll be putting vocals on this one, not sure they'd fit.

Cheers!
