I know most of the Americans here are probably fed up with this subject by now, but I actually have a question for our posters outside of the United States. I have been hearing from people outside of the country that the Obama inauguration is big news in many countries. Australia, England, and many other countries seem to have this near the top of their news as well. I'm just curious as to if some of the posters on here are also hearing a lot of this news, and how big is it really. Is it the big story? Is it a big story? Is it more of a mid-sized story? Any way you can really describe it I guess. I'm just pretty curious. I know that this does have a big effect on the rest of the world, but despite trying to keep myself as conscious to the international community as I can, it's still hard for me to really know how big this is for the rest of the world.

And for fun, what do you guys think of not only the selection of Obama as president for the USA, but also what do you feel will come from it? I noticed today that suddenly the daylight seemed to last a couple of minutes longer than it did the day before, it's amazing that a president can do that much! In all seriousness though, it's not as much the election of Obama, but Preznit Georgio Bush leaving office, it felt like a cloak of evil had been lifted from the country, but that's more due to personal politics.

Pretty big thing here, no wonder, about two governments ago we became "ally" of USA in T.W.A.T (The War On Terror), and since then every government try to draw some benefits from that (not sure if to any effect :)) . Probably every politician on the world has some hopes/expectations about new American president. No matter how do you feel about US, there's no doubt it has massive influence on the world.

And my overall impression is there's so much optimism and high hopes about Obama then there's no doubt he will fail them, it's like everybody expects him to be superhero ending all wars and famine. Hard to envy his situation. Of course I know there's plenty of people distrusting him, but still he has tons of very strong and vocal enthusiast on his side, and I can see it in our media too. I wish him good luck anyway.

Not just rockstars. Everyone and everything has been going on and on about this crap forever, I'm getting sick of it. I was hoping that people would finally forget about all this shit now that he's done his silly bible speech. Fucking hell.

He brought all of that hype and high expectations on himself during his campaign.

I'm glad our country has finally come to electing people despite the color of their skin, quite a feat for a country that was run by slave owners for so long.

He does have a lot to live up to, I hope he can live up to at least some of it.

Until he proves something I am pretty ambivelant.
Anyone who succeeds George Bush Jnr is going to be seen as a bringer of change. The fact he is a black man adds to the hype some what I feel.
Like I say I withhold my judgement, so far its all words and all politicians are good at making promises but few of them keep them.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm actually with those of you who are getting sick with this stuff. I was watching the Chicago Bulls play the Atlanta Hawks last night (big basketball fan here), and you couldn't have a commercial break without having some thing come on the screen where a player would talk about how much it means to them to have Barack in office.

I agree that he was the right choice, as America finally didn't screw up for the first time in 12 years (although in 2000 it wasn't the people that failed the country). However, the expectations seem to be set way too high. With the way the government is set up here, not even Jesus himself (assuming he existed) could have gotten anything done. Then again, that's also assuming he'd get elected. You'd have a lot of people in the south calling him a liberal commie and taking every shot they possibly could at him, in his own name.

Either way though, it was good to hear from all of you on the issue. For the sake of the world, let's hope he does a great job, but yeah, living up to those expectations is going to be next to impossible.

I guess he also passed something to do with cutting off any support of lobbyists and everything to do with them. +1 to Obama.
