Having found a Guitar Pro tab of Earth Day, I decided to use the RSE effects of GP, and see whether or not I can produce stuff :P

This cover was recorded using Guitar Pro 5.2 for the guitar and bass sounds, the Sytrus VST plugin in Fruity Loops for the strings and synths, and the EZDrummer DFH plugin for Fruity loops for the drums. It was recorded and effects added in Audacity. It's quite obvious that the entire thing is software generated, but until I can get my hands on a guitar and actually learn how to play it, the software is a good starting point, I think :)

The song cuts off at around 5 mins in, as the original tabber hadn't finished the song, and like I said, this is a work in progress :)

It's amazing how lacking it is without vocals.

Nice job though, sounds pretty good considering it's all synthesized.

Yeah, I have yet to find a decent choir VST, and I can't sing to save my life :P

Be my guest. Consider my cover an "opensource" cover :P

I'll listen to this cover in a bit and edit this with my thoughts, but right off the bat, if you have the same GP tab that I got from ultimate-guitar.com, it has some glaring errors. If it is, I wouldn't mind contributing the correct guitar part...

Why not throw in 12 different guitarists?

And 6 vocalists...

I'm not too sure what production went into it, but it just sounds like MIDI/GP sounds to me. And the tab is not as correct as I had remembered. When I get a break I'll correct it...or maybe record a cover...

I corrected as many as I could, but this being a Devy song, no-one will ever hear all of the layers :P

Yup. Guitars and bass are the Guitar Pro RSE sounds from GP 5.2. But no MIDI.

stratman687 wrote:hey sheps, do you think you could give me a copy sometime without the guitar pro guitars? You don't have to worry about that part, I'll record it for ya :)

Sure :). I'll upload a copy to Rapidshare when I next have access to my main PC, and the Audacity project (around 500MB-ish), if you want.

Yeah, I've just found out that all the data files come to about 1.2GB. I don't think my Internet connection's up to that :P

I don't mean that it's missing layers. The verse riff and some other bits are just wrong (not to mention the tab isn't even in the right tuning, if it's the same as the one I have). Watch Dev play it on the Safe Zone DVD. I don't have much time to post right now, but in a few days I'll try and correct all the things I find and upload it to you.

Cool beans.

Anyhoo, as stratman687 requested, here are the versions of the cover that don't have guitars, should anyone want to record their own. I can also upload other versions without particular instruments if anyone wants to record those (keys, drums, etc).

There are three version of the cover, one without the main guitars, one without the backing guitars, and one with no guitars at all.

High-quality WAV (135MB)
Lower-quality MP3 (256Kbit/s)(21MB)

Re-recorded version of my cover with as many errors corrected as I could find (for now).
