Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Anyone Porcupine Tree fans on here? Have just 'discovered' them in the last 6 months, after resisting them for a long time. They've blown me away now.

Apart from that, the new Gojira, Opeth's Watershed, the new Cradle of Filth and some cool Aussie bands you all need to check out: Psycroptic, The Amenta, Dead Letter Circus, Cog...

HARDCORE P-Tree fan here! :D There are other really serious PT fans here as well! One question: why would you resist the Tree?! Was it not love at first listen?

Sweet. In all actuality, it was probably second listen for me too. The first song I heard was The Sky Moves Sideways, the WHOLE thing. And it was cool, but I wasn't really sure what just happened after it finished. Then I heard Blackest Eyes, and knew the band was onto something. Versatility is one of SW's strengths.

It's still just vague liking at whatever listen I'm on...

Na, not at all. I usually like progressive music that goes BOOOM!!!!! And PT seemed to be a little restrained and laid back for my tastes. But they've gradually worked their way under my skin. Have been hooked on IA, FoaBP and Deadwing for the past 6 months, and I just bought Nil Recurring and Lightbulb Sun yesterday. Loving them already.

BTW, what is the general consensus as to their best album? IS there a consensus? If I HAD to name a favourite, it'd have to be Deadwing. Glass Arm Shattering is my favourite tune...

Check out Cog and Dead Letter Circus. More Progressive alternative heavy ROCK, but still amazing. Karnivool is another one...

That's a pretty tough question to answer - I happen to love In Absentia. That was the first PT album I really heard... so I love that one. I know a lot of people are really getting into them now because they're hearing the newer stuff and really liking that. I dunno - I'd venture a guess that Deadwing or FoaBP are pretty popular?! That's complete speculation though.

Really dig into Lightbulb Sun, it's "softer," if you will... but it's a real treasure if you let it get under your skin  Glad to have another PT fan around here.

Listening to LS as we speak, LOVING it! God I LOVE discovering new bands (for me), especially ones with extensive back catalogues to be discovered....
