Decent demo I just did with the POD X3 Live using the Big Bottom Amp model. It just sounds so beefy to me.

I'm wondering how the Fender 4x10 bassman sounds on it?

I can do a little demo for you if you want and just record it raw, lemme know what you want and I can cook something up.
You know about the possibility of adding custom amp Impules Responses for all sorts of cabs don't you? Fredrik (meshuggah) and Jocke (Clawfinger) have made a ton of them together already.

Yeah guys, thats great! the big bottom is killer and the Fractal is awesome.

I'm working on a short clip over the holidays, my style has gone in a different direction. On the album, there are big heavy sounds...done in a number of ways, and I'm pretty happy with them!

I believe the digital gear is the future, for sure! My main rig (for my passion, not my recording....I record with lots of stuff) is a bit of a throwback. Bassman replica made by a buddy of mine. Pretty much an exact replica of a tweed bassman with Tung Sol 12ay7s. Really authentic, cloth wire etc...and not super pricey either (relatively). My love is for clean tone right now, and in a way, the unpredictable nature of tubes allows me to 'play' the amp.

Just a good quality Y cable, one end direct to the bright channel, one to an Eventide Timefactor which is sent to the normal channel.

Guitars are an Eric Johnson Strat and a Gretsch White Falcon.

I'll try and blast something out over the holidays.

Here's the amp... the guys name is Jacques and the amp is magic. I'm not endorsing them per say, he's just a buddy and I'm doing a bunch of sound clips for his web site this month. I bought the amp and he helps me tweak my gear in general...theyre just made with care. I love these amps and the Relic B'man, EJ, Gretsch and Eventide are my sound for the side project...(after these two current records) no endorsements, just exactly what I want to play for the clean sound. As simple as I can get, ...clips this week.

And heres the rest of the gear, the only thing not included here is a Y cable, but I'm sure you know what that look like.

Thats good shat right there Dev, digital is definately the future....whether thats a good or bad thing is open to debate really.

The eric johnston strat is sex, my buddy has one and i can never stop playing it when i see it, the neck is super slick, as for Gretsch, well those guitars are in a league of their own, the craft and work gone into those axes are second to none. Im favouring Ibanez at the mo to be honest, an RG321ex with Emg's, the neck is pure sex to play and the tone is so crunchy, yet clean, amplification wise im looking for a new make, im looking at Mesa boogie or Peavey stack but need help to be honest as theres alot of varitey.

But yeah, the clean tone achieved from a tube amp can be very...interesting at times but on the whole awesome with a huge 'bitey' tone to it. Good stuff Dev thanks for these regular updates, just wondering though...... is the album and ep going to be released at the same time or will the releases be staggered?

Man......

I ain't got a clue what the hell you lot are talking about.....

I listen to music cause i love it, unfortunately,i ain't very gifted/talented to actually be able to play an instrument.....

I do rock on guitar hero though (and the drums on world tour)

I can imagine that this thread is kinda like music porn......that's not a bad thing by the way!!!

Merry x-mas folks.

I'm off to scratch my balls

Yay for geeking out! Have you ever tried software based amp modellers? Extremely tweakable, but I have latency problems so don't use them myself. I use a Boss GT-8 because I liked the sounds better than the Line 6 stuff available at the time. Never messed with the x3 though.

Also agree for the most part on your bass philosophy. Except sometimes wankery can be cool. I can only take small doses though.

What are you using for mics?

Tell me you were wise enough to stay away from the RG370. Okay, the neck is good, and the pickups are beefy, but the metals used for the bridge and locking nut are terrible - infact, while adjusting intonation on mine, one of the bolts actually snapped form the bridge, just by tightening it. Had to get a block put in the whammy aswell, for tuning issues. If you're looking for an upgrade anytime soon, trying finding an older model, like a '93 or '94.

Any day I would choose Mesa Boogie over Peavey for amps. Mesa almost knows you holistically - Especially for distortion. I'd say go for the Dual Rectifier, but they might get a little towards the expensive side. The Single Rectifier's can still give you one hell of a sound though, through a 4x12 cabinet.

Thanks for the feedback, yep i definately steered clear of any floating bridge Ibanez, i used to have one and the troubles i had with intonation etc weren't worth the hassle, however my fixed bridge RG is a pleasure to play, keeps its tuning in most tunings which is a godsend, tones is amazing with pretty much any pickup selection through a Marshall MG100dfx/boss metal distortion pedal, but im looking for even more 'beef' and crunch while retaining clarity in tone. As for the metals used for the bridge, theyre pretty darn sturdy and have served me well for over a year's hard use.

Yeah, ive heard Mesa Boogie are brilliant all rounders, im going to look into them for sure now, thanks a bunch. :P

Ive just picked up a Spidervalve 112 from the music shop, parents have bought it me for X-mas. Cant wait to play it but im waiting till Christmas day! Looks really cool tho, tried it out in the shop and it sounds cool. Tons of diffrent sounds and effects on it!
Never seen some much postage from Dev before, thanks for being so down to earth.

Ha!

I agree about the bass. I love playing guitar, but there's something huge and primal about those thunderous low tones, when it feels like the sound waves are going right through you, that guitars just can't touch.

Thanks man! My friend is going to be doing vocals over it soon too, I might just use his take and put it over the final version.
