Just think that you guys should know that a real mean virus is floating around. I managed to catch through the Devy Forums, but I'm pretty sure its more coincidence that it caught me while on the forum, rather than the forum it's self.

Basically its called VirusRemover 2008, it pulls up its pop ups, downloads it self, then puts up warnings on your computer, (Like the windows XP infomation bubbles.) It looks really legit, but obviously it isn't. It's like fake anti virus software. It "scans" your computer bringing up tons of fake virus stuff, trying to get you to buy its 'real' version so it can remove it.

Obviously, don't do it :P

But if you need to remove it,

Hope that helps if you guys didn't already know about it. :D

Cheers for the heads up! The only virus I've only actually had is a crappy one for MSN that posted random advertisements into my chat window, I've been really close to catching some extremely bad ones. Heads-Up posts like this have always saved me. I'll keep an eye out!

No worries! Once you know how to get rid of it, its easy but time consuming.

And yeah I know what crappy MSN one too. Loads of people fall victim to that one :P

Do what I said Ambs, get everything of value onto a dvd or external harddrive and format away! It's the universal cure for PC problems.

And what the fuck, Nathan, why do you always have such awesome music listed in your last.fm sig? Hi five!

Its cool - I thought it was legit too. Just follow the directions and you should be fine. You may have to repeat it a couple of times, and of course make sure you are careful in the registry keys. Don't delete the wrong thing whatever you do :P

At the moment its still popping up some "Agree to these terms of agreement" thing, obviously make sure you don't click agree :P The red X should solve your problem :D

I don't know about anyone else here, but the first thought through my head if something like that came up on my computer would be 'oh, looks like I caught something.' Most of the time avoiding virii in the first place is just common sense, unless you're browsing some really sketchy sites :P

You hear that Amber?

Are you hinting something? :P Like I said, this acutally popped up while I was on the Devy forum. I think it was more likely by chance though.

And Coma, you are lucky!

I guess it's another incarnation of shit called "antivirus xp 2008" or "antivirus xp 2009" (and probably many other names). Some people I know caught that shit - using Malwarebytes Antimalware looks like a good and hassle free method of getting rid of this crap.

My brother-in-law had this one. He must have had quite a few other problems as well, his laptop was fucked up. It wasn't worth the effort to fix, I just backed up his junk and reformatted.
