You lucky duck. Ever since my parents took me on a road trip through the interior I've always wanted to get off of Vancouver Island and see more of the wilderness of BC. It just stretches on and on, and it's amazing. I think this means you're winning.

And everyone should check out Stravinsky. The Rite of Spring is great, and so is Firebird Suite. It's definitely worth finding recordings where he's conducting.

Cool pics - I didn't realize Devin owned a Carvin Legacy. Are there any known recordings of him using it?

Also, Dev, your license plates are showing - I don't know if you worry about stalkers or anything...

He doesn't have to worry. He'll just slay them with a tune or two if they come 'round. :guitar:

Licence plates you say? :freddy: (it seems like an appropriate smilie.)

No I wouldn't I wouldn't want death via riffage.
Although, that would be an interesting way to go.

Some of those DevEstate pictures remind me an awful lot of my ferry ride to the Island.

With a place DevEstate I would find it difficult to compose dark heavy material. I hope you have a studio in back that has a busted out window that is pieced together with duct taped, smells like piss and has a stack of schlitz cans stacked high complete with cigarette butts and ash all over. Maybe some stinky underwear and panties thrown on top of a collapsed moldy couch. That's metal inspiration baby! On the other hand, the place would be conducive to ambient composition. At least in Spring and Summer.

I had no idea you were on junk. For shame. It seems that a lot of people up north succumb to it. Expensive too. You must have been raking it in. I'm a pussy. I can't stand needles. And did I mention I would have been too broke anyway.

I couldn't bear to live too far north during the dark times with the cold and clammy winters (at least in the rainforest area). Brought the worst out in me, personally, especially living in a dark dank cabin. Black thoughts.

If any of you people out there have not listened to the bonus cd on Accelerated Evolution, you are missing out. I believe it is his finest work. For a real jarring experience, listen to the bonus cd, then listen to Ziltoid. I cannot think of a more dichotomous selection of his work and it will f you up.

IMO please ease up on Dev on the expectations of his next stuff. What will be will be.

An actual question now that I've brown nosed my way here.

So hear me out on this. Its going to ramble, but at the end make sense... at least to me.

After SYL you said you were taking time off to improve your guitar technique. This was about the time you released Synchestra.

Of the many musicians I listen to, I feel that a lot of top flight musicians, such as Joe Satriani, would be better off collaborating with other musicians than strictly playing his own stuff. I also think Steve Vai might fit into this situation... his stuff might be personally satisfying to himself, but ... but.. well maybe thats all that matters. Never mind...

You on the other hand have much more artistic range than others. Your material continues to be unique each time, and improve.

I would like to hear an album with you and Steve collaborating once again.

Ok I'm done kissing ass. Keep doing what you love. Even if it is musical janitorial work.

Cheers,
Nick

Speaking of news, are you really going to collaborate with Fredrik Thordendal on the next Sol Niger, Devin (if you're not already)? Too many rumors and statements by people. We could use a concrete answer :p. Thanks.

I think for a fan any news is good news.

But I think for a Devin fan, any news is another wormhole into the world that occupies The Dev.

DevEstate is beautiful. Genuinely. I want to go to Canada. Will someone have me for a week?

Music is over-rated. But feeling in music is under-appreciated.

I look forward to the next record as much as anyone on here, but I think as much as everyone wants it as soon as possible, we should all just sit back and relax. It will come.

Once I move out (next summer, likely), why not? :P Though that assumes I get accepted to Uni somewhere outside this hellhole of a city...

Dev: I think "fuck drugs" is a perfectly understandable statement... but then, I'm in high school, and have seen more than a few friends drop out and disappear (or, in one case, be run out of town by their dealers) due to drugs. So... my opinion is pretty much "fuck drugs." Totally understandable - though my reasons for it are different to your's (I've never partaken), the heart of the issue is the same. :)
