Try using your feet (?).

And maybe try putting your thoughts down on paper (or into a program) first, and then learning what you came up with. That's how things work for me sometimes...

Been in that boat before...First time I got to see Opeth had to drive 2 hours out of town by myself to see them...I hate going to shows alone :|

Aye, I've started using some programs in college. Having a midi-controller with a keyboard is stupidly helpful when I'm trying to come up with guitar lines. Slowly getting some musical genius going on. Slooowly.
