Doesn't it?

Every country needs some degree of 'socialism' otherwise a truly free market economy would be anarchy. You'd have no public education system, no police, no military, no street lighting, no sewerage, no refuse collection, etc. These things couldn't realistically be run on a commercial basis terribly well.

You can call that "socialism" if you'd like, but it's only a small portion of our economy.

How is Obama not near a socialist? He wants to make health care a government liability, he wants to give more and more money to the poor(you know, the ones who already live on welfare because they dont want to find a job)

I dont see how his plan to increase taxes on businesses making more than $250,000 a year is going to help create jobs at all. Someone please explain how taxing small businesses, possibly family owned and operated businesses, will be helped by increased taxation. They wont. The GOVERNMENT will be helped by it no doubt.

Honestly, America needs the Fair Tax plan.

I think I understand where you're coming from, and while I can't say I'm thrilled to have Obama as president, it's certainly not as bad as you describe. Obama is no degree of extreme: he's just another shade of corporatist moderate.

I won't get into the finer points (I certainly can if you want, but I doubt that anyone wants all-out political debates here). Regardless, I have to say that his health care plan doesn't make anything a "government liability," insofar as I understand it.

And as for the economic plan, it's not the best, but it certainly beats the hell out of McCain's. In fact, the president whom McCain cited as one of our nation's greatest presidents (Teddy Roosevelt) had a very similar brand of socialism to Obama's. The point of Obama's plan isn't to give money (indeed, that won't happen) to the poor, but to reduce the taxes for those who make less. This isn't supposed to create equality of wealth, but rather equality of opportunity.

So, I guess all I'm really trying to say is try to keep an open mind. Things may not be perfect, but there's more than one way to make them work.

And maybe we can agree that it's a step above Governor Bush (?).

He has to prove it first. Fancy speeches, charisma, and just being a democrat wont cut it.

He has yet to say anything about tax cuts for the middle class, he has said he wont RAISE our taxes...nothing about lowering them. He said he wants to repeal the Bush Tax cuts which would mean middle class family's taxes would go back to what they were during Clinton's presidency. Then he wants to levy more taxes on the wealthy. All while making sure the lower class still either doesn't pay any taxes or pays very, very little(i'm for the very little if they arent making much, every citizen should pay taxes).

I'm going into this with an open mind, unlike a lot of people I know. I still dont like his policies at this point, but time can possibly change that.

Maybe you could do it for me. I've seen your Deviant page :P

That way, my mum is happy because there is colour and I'm happy because there is no effort! :D
