haha errrm well....music is played through windows media player using a custom EQ, then is goes through the sound card EQ, then into a £150 stereo via 3.5" > twin phono cable, finally coming out through two Acoustic Solutions floor standing speakers. Not sure what size the speakers are. Everything is really cheap but I'm pretty happy with the sound quality. I can have all the volumes (PC, stereo) turned up max with no rumble or distortion, and I spent ages tweaking the EQ's so everything sounds crystal clear.

I wouldn't mind an even better setup, though I'm not sure what I'd need.

Acoustic Solutions...

If you're from England, get onto Richer Sounds and get a better set of speakers, you shall not regret it

Right this moment Budget = Ziltch.

I'm only getting in about £70-£80 a week and that goes mostly on beer and girlfriend so no money for speakers, and I don't really have any need for headphones. I do know where there is a Richer Sounds branch in Manchester so when I get a better job which won't be too long I'll pop in and have a peep.

Yeah I am aware of the general crappiness of AS products but I'm quite surprised by these ones I have. They only cost me £30 quid for both but they sound pretty good. Although saying that I havn't heard any really good speakers before so I can't really compare  .

Richer Sounds is great, although the staff aren't too helpful. The prices are ridiculous though, you can get a pair of KEF Cresta 10s for just over 100 squids

for headphones go no further that the Grado's :D

even the cheapest (the SR-60's) are better than stuff thats 2 or 3 times their price. I've got a pair of SR80's and i couldn't believe what i was hearing the first time i threw them on.
give them a try at least, they;re a good option and the SR60's are fairly cheap for a good set of cans

yea but not everybody likes the grado sound. and if you live outside the states their a bitch to come across without like a 200% price hike. i wont disagree that they are the best cans for bang+buck *in the us* but if you like the more bass heavy sound go for beyer dynamic dt770 but an amp is neaded. but a cheap easy to drive can is the "ath-a700" *curently wareing them on my head*

and grado's are uncomfortable. 7/8 of them are supraural the gs1000 is circumaural but costs 1k just for the cans.

*supraural means they rest on the ear.*
*circumaural suround the ear *

Whoever said that there's a sound at the start of Truth, that's really interesting. Wonder if I'm missing anything else like that. Too bad my computer doesn't have nearly enough space to rip stuff to FLAC.

It kind of gave the song a new dimension, which was really cool.

Damn! I didn't even notice that and I played it!!!

It's true though, I listen to Dev's albums and you can always hear something new or look at a piece of his music in a different way every time. The guy is a freakin' talent, that is for sure.

Best,

A little off topic, but I can't help but correct this misinformation. Hehehe. The SR-60's might have been a great value many years ago, but today there are better headphones available for cheaper. Sennheiser makes plenty of cans around the same price that sound a whole level better. I got a pair of M-audio Q40's for a few extra bucks ($97 on Amazon in the US right now, vs $69 for SR60) and they're two levels above the Grado's, which are complete and utter SHIT by comparison. I shudder when I think about the difference in both sound quality and comfort. Most model headphones the same age as SR60 have been discontinued or can be found for cheap, but since the Grado's attained a legendary status, they're still able to charge a good amount for them. They're not a good value at all. The good news is you can sell yours on Ebay and get a good price for them, since there are plenty of suckers out there who are looking for them. Then you can buy a REAL pair of headphones that don't sound like shit (value wise) and hurt your ears.

I rip all my music to my PC as VBR WMA lossless, and with my Sennheiser 555's (which I'm extremely pleased with) it sounds like awesomeness. I'm still using the old built-in Realtek soundcard, but I'm not sure that matters when playing music. Shouldn't at least. Anyway, I'd recommend the Sennheiser 555 or 595, if you want awesome quality.
