Greetings fellow observers, my name is brian and i am excited to explore this forum! I have been a Dev and Strapping fan for about two years now. I can easily say that Devin Townsend is my favorite artist right now and i think many others can as well.

Hi, yet another Brit here.
My name is Billy Rhomboid and I hail from mystic Avalon. (Glastonbury to you non-Arthurian types)

I first got into Dev around the time of the first SYL album but then kind of drifted away for ten years or so. Which was good because then I could really wallow in all the stuff he released in the meantime when i came back to it.

I am also working on developing a fixation on ridiculous pointy-headstocked guitars from the 80's

Hey all, how is it going? This isn't my first post, nor will it be my last, but I will say that I've been a lurker on this forum for quite some time. The unfortunate thing is that before Monday, I hadn't had a computer since October! So I hadn't exactly been able to log in and say hello.

So here it goes: Hello.

My name's Cody, I live in San Francisco and I'm currently a senior in college for 2 degrees, one in Broadcasting and one in Humanities, but originally I'm from Santa Cruz, CA. I was listening Strapping Young Lad in high school when I was a sophomore, and really starting to get into the heavier side of metal. My dad was a speed metal guitarist in the 80s (no one famous, let me assure you. His crowning achievement was opening up for Zakk Wylde in San Jose for one show when he was with the four horsemen), so I grew up on Testament, Megadeth, Maiden, Priest, all of that stuff. Ironically, my dad listened to Steve Vai quite a bit, and I never quite understood why I liked the stuff with vocals more than without. I started with the Gothenburg stuff, as many before me had. All of a sudden I came across, this full wall of sound in a track called All Hail the New Flesh. So, pretty much right away, I was into SYL. I knew Devin had some side stuff but I never thought of checking it out. How foolish I was. I had seen SYL a couple times, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. They never cracked my top 5 bands or anything, but they were awesome.

I graduated, moved an hour or so north to San Francisco, and spent a year in the dorms out there. Nothing really special about that year, but towards the end of it, I lost someone who was very close to me, had a really awful self-destructive relationship, and a general depression that I couldn't really break free from. An online friend of mine from France whom I used to trade music with reminded me that there was some really brilliant solo stuff of Devin's. I was sent Life. That was like the moment I broke out of my self-deprecating chrysalis, and found the music that I had been searching for, for sooooooo long. I really can't explain the euphoria I was feeling at the time, but immediately I bought up everything I could find. My metalhead best friends Mike and Sam (Long haired musicians, naturally) basically started telling people in a joking manner that I had a hard-on for Devvy. It really was revelatory for me though.

That next year, I started working at the Virgin record store in downtown SF. You know, corporate BS, but hey, we had a very very small Devin selection! When Ziltoid came out, I was able to get Hyperdrive played overhead, and always made sure to push for a restock whenever something sold out. There's not too much more to add other than, like many rebellious youth in college age, when I was on spring break, I had work done to symbolize the moment of euphoria that I had felt a couple of years prior. It's also kind of a memorial to myself that I can overcome just about anything with just a little creative energy :)

Excuse me for the blurriness of the image but, basically it's a tattoo of the image on the Biomech CD that I drew myself

Hai guys! My name is Morten, I'm eighteen years old and from a city in the south of Norway called Stavanger.

My favourite bands are currently Devin Townsend w/ Band, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, Dream Theater, Nevermore, Gojira, Iron Maiden. Of course I listen to other stuff, but those are really the main bands for now. (http://www.last.fm/user/Abydost :3)
I'm mostly into prog metal and extreme metal stuff, I guess I would call myself pretty picky when it comes to music since it's very rare for me to find something that I really love, it's easy for me to find something that annoys me about a song/album/artist and then eventually I'll stop listening to it/them/it.
I discovered Devin and SYL around Christmas, and never ever before have I found music that I love this much. The funny thing is, I like absolutely everything the Dev has made, from Punky Brüster to Ziltoid, and that's never happened before. My favourite Dev albums right now are probably Terria, Ocean Machine and Synchestra. I like to listen to the albums as a whole (when I'm home, not enough time when I'm listening on my ipod!), especially Ocean Machine. The atmosphere is amazing and grabs me everytime.
Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to the next album, especially now that I've read what Devin had to say about it in that other thread. Awesomeness.

edit - Oh and sorry for bumping of the old threads, just started browsing the forums today :D
