Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

That was just all kinds of funny. :D Liked the songs, too. I shall buy it!

He's not that bad. The director of that film didn't help matters.

I've seen a bunch of Japanese and Korean movies recently :

The Taste of Tea (Japanese movie by Katsuhito Ishii) : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413893/
AWESOME. A slice of life of a regular Japanese family, or maybe a bit eccentric, mostly the grand father.
The action is very slow, don't look for a definite plot with the good guys winning at the end, it's all so subtle, all characters are lovable, with a bit of "WTF?!" spread here and there, bringing a smile on your face everytime.
It's probably "easier" to make a movie emotional through sadness rather than happyness, it's cool to find some exceptions. Last time I had a smile on my face through a whole movie was Totoro. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I definitely suggest to check it out if you want to spend a quiet, fresh, relaxed, happy moment. 8 or 9/10

Funky Forrest (same guy as above) : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451829/
This one may be a nice experimental movie, but it was too much for me. Too much "WTF?!" kills the "WTF?!" IMO. Maybe if you smoke something before watching it the experience may be different. It's a bit like John Zorn's Naked City in music for me, it's ok 5 minutes, but not 2 hours (well, naked city compared to a movie would probably be more something like Tetsuo : the Iron Man than Funky Forest... Funky Forest is about colors, aliens, psychedelic music, weird dreams and whatever). 6 or 7/10

Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl (same as above) : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169222/
Having been delighted by the Taste of Tea and - though it wasn't my cup of tea - the originality of Funky Forest, I probably expected too much from this one, moreover as it's the guy's first movie and a bunch of years older than the two above.
It could have been great, but I started to feel it wouldn't be that great when I realised the plot was not gonna be what I expected it to be. I mean, sometime you have a feel the movie will go in a certain direction, you think it'd be great if it went that way, but no, it doesn't (for instance the 1st Pirates of the Caribbean, I thought it'd go on a chase for the black pearl across oceans and stuff (probably had the old "Pirate" movie in head), but no, like 20 miles later they reach that island and there you have the final encounter, what ? already ?).
Here it's the same, it starts great with a chase in the forest (of Japan) between a car and a guy running in pants. Some bad guys, rather cliché but with some potential are introduced, all that with the girl's underlying story could turn into a great road movie across Japan. Well no, most of the action happens in the same area, the characters are not developped as they could have been (if at all), and the whole movie ends up feeling like a failed Pulp Fiction wanabee.
It's not as bad as it sounds, but could've been way better. 6/10

Old Boy : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/
Mmh, yeah, ok, not bad, but IMO it's the kind of movie where the settings are so unusual (a random guy is kept imprisonned in a closed apartment for 15 years, with no idea why and by who, he's eventually released and goes loooking for the truth) that you feel the denouement will let you down whatever happens. Saying anything more would start spoiling the story. 6 or 7/10, I'm not sure. Nice settings, cheap plot element (IMO).

Ichi the Killer : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296042/
DISAPOINTED. The relatively famous picture of the guy with sliced-open cheeks may have misled me thinking it was a "classic", great movie. But it's mostly sadistic violence, or more likely gore, which gets quickly boring, and I haven't seen much "black humour". I don't know if I'm blasé (well I am) or turned into a sissy without realising, but I really don't see the point of such movies. Also both Old boy and this one have a smiliar element in their plot, that I don't like, so... 5 or 6/10

Ichi The Killer is one of my favorite movies. It's a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, parodying the genre by being over the top (kind of like a certain band we may know).

And the tongue cutting scene was one of the funniest in the movie. Everyone stares in shock and he calmly answers his phone. Haha. In case you didn't know, the scene in Oldboy was an homage to Ichi.

Oldboy was slick. Not my favorite either, though.

Last movie i watched waaaaas Nosferatu (the 1979 Herzog adaptation). God was it ever boring. Dracula should NEVER be adapted to celluloid. IT JUST DOESNT WORK

I AM LEGEND

I don't know any story behind this, I didn't read the cover, I've seen the trailer .. Maybe once?
So It was "a new thing" for me.

I liked it, but often I found myself thinking a lot of every day stuff, I mean, does he have them?
Do they still work? How will they work after all that time?
How come all the cars he drives still work?
I know that car batteries will eventually run out of power if you are not using them.

And I need to change my opinion about Wilbur Smithiansen, I really liked him in this one!
It did have some scary moments, and parts when I wanted to sob (you who have seen the movie, can guess which part it was..)
but what really scared me, were the crazy animations from the Extras!
It has been ages since I was afraid to turn the lights off, but last night was one of them...

9½/10

The Godfather I & II.
Great indeed. I don't know if those are the best movies evaaaar as it's a bit less chalenging than a Space Opera for instance, but its great, great atmosphere, great acting, the curiosity to have a look at the mafia, etc etc, and the 5 hours go by without noticing.
I thought the 2 was lacking a bit of explanations though, despite the flashbacks. I mean, how come they criticize what others do isn't fair and yet do the exact same thing when their power grows ?
Or maybe that's the point of the movie :P

Oh and Dark City.
Didn't expected it to be that good. Kind of like Matrix (or the other way around), with less CGI and maybe a better atmosphere, more human, or less cold, or something.

Fullgore> Ah m'kay, I have to say I didn't really got the self-parody of Ichi the Killer, maybe it wasn't obvious enough for me^^, except at the end when he runs on the roof.
