Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

I really fucking hate Porcelain Heart. Seriously, the song sucks! I'll explain why:

1. There's like 3 different sections to the song, but its 8 minutes long.
2. The vocal melody sucks.
3. Where the fuck are the growls? Seriously, the song build up to an Opethgasm, and where it could have relaesed said gasm instead it stops with some bullshit verse about how Mikael likes roses or something.
4. The radio edit of the song is actually better.
5. This is the first fucking single. This means everyone new to Opeth is going to hear this and be like "holy shit this is boring" There really isn't a single on the album, but if I had o pick one for the metal audience, I'd go with The Lotus Eater, easily.
6. Waste of Dropped D tuning.

Dammit Opeth, what the fuck?

I love the new album.

I'm also not keen on PH though, I especially don't like the the oh soo cheesey lyrics of "rest your head now don't you cry, don't ever ask the reason why'....I find that part painful to listen to. They should have put derelict herds on there instead.

Derelict Herds has some really cool parts, and would have made a much better song on the album than Porcelain Heart. I think we can blame their new guitarist, Fredrik, for this one. Supposedly Porcelain Heart is one he wrote with Mike.

Now that's a bit harsh. It's not like Mike never wrote anything shitty (Ghost Reveries anyone?), you can't just say it's Fredriks fault that the song isn't very good.

I think Fredrik does bring a fresh touch to Opeth, a bit of a more death-metal edge. It's nice, that lead in Porcelain Heart around 3:30 for example

And why wouldn't Opeth be allowed to make a heavy song without growls? I don't see a problem there, when they think heavy vocals don't fit the song then they have the right to stick to clean vocals exclusively. It's not like Mike is bad at it ;) (unlike that Bridge of Sighs cover, that sounds horrible. He needs to smoke a lot more to pull that off).

For the single pick it may not be that bad. It may not be really represent Opeth properly. It's like a nu-metal/metalcore version of Opeth, should appeal to a large audience :P

Other than that, yes the song is crap. Ghost Reveries in a nutshell really, highly uninspired :P

Axe smashes his ass of by the way, that's good :P He's a much better replacement for Lopez than I had expected.

Ghost Reveries had some great songs man, The first 3 are amazing in my opinion. As are Hours of Wealth and Harlequin Forest(again, in my opinion)

I think Fred has some good solos (Hessian Peel, Hex Omega...2 of my favorites on the album)

Axe is a great drummer...But I still wish they had Lopez...

Now, this is from a guy who listens to a bigggggggggggg variety of music.

Opeth are just not very memorable IMHO. Great riffs, decent musicianship etc but really Devin wipes the floor with them.

I've posted it elsewhere, and feel kind of repetitive, but sometimes I just have to get it off my chest.

Opeth's songwriting has been getting progressively more interesting, exciting, and listenable with every album. Still Life is nearly throwaway to me, being the first album of theirs in their discography that I will listen to, and Watershed is at this point the cream of the Opeth crop. Sorry, folks. I guess I'm just weird.

Have you ever given My Arms, Your Hearse a good listen? Astonishing albums and probably my favorite Opeth album to date.
