Ok, so I've heard it now. Holy crap, Combustion is as cool as it gets coming from these guys, caught me totally off guard. Seems like the whole point of the song is to get you into backbeat though, but that's fine with me. :) Great 2/4 action!
And the production is daaamn tight and sweet, no complaints there. I was no big fan of C33, but this baby I'm sure I'll learn to love.

I love obZen now. I've finally been able to give all the tracks a fair listen.

Eh, dont care what you guys say! I think Mikael Akerfeldt has a phenomenal voice! In fact i wish he, Steven Wilson, Fredrik Thordendal, Devin and either Tomas Haake or Morgan Agren would to a project...would make the best supergroup ever!

Who said he hasn't? It's just he's either biting off puppies heads OR singing gently, melancholic songs. Dev can perform lounge music with mouth full of puppies.

That would turn out into one hell of a fight

I bet Tomas can fight at least three people at once. In different tempos. Like kind of polyrhythmic ninja.

This album is kicking my ass. Fucking heavy!! Good to hear some more diversity in this album. And Combustion, Bleed, Pravus are just freaking fantastic. Whoever posted best metal album of 2008 is correct, back to the drawing board folks.

The Quake bass!! UNNH!!! 39.5 inch scale length for an even lower E... I gotta kidnap a Quake bassist...

Yes.
As much as I enjoy Meshuggah as a whole, I don't really like their 'new' approach of riffing since "Nothing". They're doing something nobody has done before in metal, but I don't like the excessive ultra low 8 string rubberband riffs (if you can call it riffs). They lack tension, literally.

Album of the year? Let's see what Testament have to offer with Alex Skolnick back in the fold...

Oh, and as far as younger (post Bruce Dickinson) 'metal' vocalists are concerned: Devin, Mikael Ã…kerfeldt, Mike Patton, Warrell Dane play in the same high end league.
