Just got The Undercurrent this week...totally blew me away! What do you think of it! Its probably the most SYLish thing I have heard since...err....SYL! In a good way though. It is also my introduction to the band.

Also, what is the Sybreed like?

Yeah, they're pure class. Melodies encoded inside wall of noise, with Dirk Verbeuren making wonders with drums over it - he is most inventive extreme drummer I've heard. Undercurrent is quality, though I miss old singer a bit.

Can't go wrong with them. Basically all of their stuff is amazing and has that psychotic, noisy flavour, but personally I find "Luminiferous" best. It has dirtier sound than their two next records, some parts are almost embarassingly noisy, growly vocals are awful, and in it all, I love it to the bits. It uses my favourite type of compositions - unleashing blastbeat powered shitstorm of layered guitars, then sticking pretty melodies on it (and not a hint of sugary maidenish harmonies).

Dunno if your copy of "Undercurrent" has bonus track, mine has "Alteration", it's old track off "Luminiferous" (though in more recent, cleaner produced version, with Lawrence Mackrory on vocals).

Basically, it's first class atmospheric (and catchy) electro-industrial with, um, industrial strenght metal section. Again, can't go wrong with Dirk Verbeuren - lots of technical drumming without losing overall groovy feel.

Nope, that's the one on the bus ;)

Days? My birthday was in June!!

Yes I was a tad late but it's impossible to have a party in the summer. So I postponed... a couple of times. And then some. But at least I had a party! As opposed to some of my friends...

Thanks for the background, I have been meaning to find more out about this band for ages! My version does have the bonus track, Alteration. I really need to check out their previous albums, you have convinced me!

Hmm...interesting, and funny that Dirk also features on this album. I need to check these guys out too I think!

Thanks so much for the info, its very useful. The opinion of a Devy fan is one I trust!

Actually I found Sybreed to be a bit... bland. Nothing special really. I can listen to it, but it won't 'stick'.

And I wasn't really impressed with The Undercurrent either. Drums are waaay too loud in the mix I think (although that seems a problem with a lot of new albums).
But the problem might be that I was not really familiar with Scarve when I bought it and I expected something completely different. I'll give it another go today.

To be honest, I don't like most of "industrial rock", it's usual short on one of ends, either industrial or rock, which sucks. Sybreed is well made on both, keyboard/ambient parts are first class and guitars/bass tightly locked with rather complex drums makes it ace in my ears. Also, I have slight pro-electronic bias, used to listen lots of electronic stuff before, so metal seamlessly merged with catchy electronics floats my boat.

Yeah, also everything sounds kinda squished to the point of clipping (at least on my mp3 player, maybe I should mess with eq). Doesn't bother me, though, I like it noisy.
