i just wondering what everyone reads for manga you know the backwards black and white comics from japan.

my favs are
5 dna2
4 vampire knight
3hellsing
2I's
1naruto

dna2 is made by the same manga-ka as I"s its about a guy who gets his dna ogumented to change him into a super playboy who gets over 100 women pregnet in the future.

vampire knight is a shoujo manga about a schoolgirl at a prestigious acadamy that hapens to have a class of vampires.

hellsing.... most people should know this one. but ill still explane it. hellsing is about a vampire hunting vampires with guns and shooting and gore and guts and blood galore quite the bloodbath

I"s one of the most suspeensfull manga's i have ever read and some of the best art i have ever seen... some full page panels seem photo realistic . its about a teen boy and his struggles to get the girl he likes.. clasic shonen manga.

naruto... another no brainer. ninjas what more is there to say?

thers my top 5

My interest in manga has faded away quite a bit those last 2 years. Got sick of the overall manga style and codes : panties, loli, moe-crap, maids, all the same faces over and over again, the same 17y.o. world saviour boys over and over again, 12y.o. informatics genius... (ok in fact those are more pictures of anime (and the annoying pre-puberty voices that come along) coming to my mind than manga, but still, I struggle getting interested in most of the production).

In fact except a few classics, like Akira and Gunnm (and Dragon Ball probably), I have only 2 manga that come to my mind as masterpieces :
-Blame! by Tsutomu Nihei that I STRONGLY recommend, out in English by Tokyopop, 10books, the 10th just out this month. Don't let the art in the 1st few books misguide you (the faces look a bit all the same, and are more or less ugly, I agree); cuz' it just keeps getting better and better.
I's dark science fiction, in a mysterious, gigantic kinda life-less megastructure, with hardly any information for the reader.
The kind of story you like or not, there is no in between, if you're hooked, YOU'RE HOOKED.

-Five Star Stories : A big tale, mixing lot of things, SF, fantasy, knight, mechas (the best designs I've ever seen), with superb art, but on hiatus for now and really hard to find in English.

I've read DNA² and Video Girl Ai but I can't say it stuck in my memory (without disrespect uh^^, but I just don't think those are "the best" around). Well Video Girl dragged for too long, 8 books of love triangle was enough for me (ok, partially cuz' my friend stopped buying them :p ) though the video thingy in the story could've been interesting.
(I"s is probably shojo rather than shonen, isn't it ?)

Lodoss : The Lady of Pharis is a nice one, pretty basic SF with dwarfs, knights, wizards and dragons, served by a really great art.
Well I usually like manga with a part of SF or fantasy in it, and probably miss a lot of good ones like 20th Century Boys (whose critics are unanimous that it's a great manga), but I'm also kinda reluctant to start another 20 books story and it's harder and harder for me to trigger my suspension of disbelief^^.

Recently I came across a short one-shot (40p), called "Hotel", by Boichi :
"In the near future global warming has increased the earth’s temperature, until the point where methane gases in the ocean are released, worsening the greenhouse effect. Earth will turn into a boiling planet devoid of life, and there’s nothing man can do about it. Two projects are undertaken to ensure man survives in some form: the “ark” that will take human DNA to the closest habitable planet, and the “hotel,” a massive tower that stores DNA and bears responsibility for humanities sins." (found on the net, from Otakuism maybe)
Pretty nice apocalyptic story (you can find it as scanlation, by kotonoha), let's just hope "positive feedback" doesn't comes to reality as much as in this one-shot :? .

(I tried to be specific about manga, of course anime-wise pretty much the whole Ghibli production deserves praises)

uh nope thats pure shonen manga right there if it was shoujo it would have a verry difrent art style and have less panties and more sparkels with more guys. its classic harem style. one guy more than one girl and compramising situations. just with a lethal dose of suspence that makes you want to scream "JUST FUCK HER ALLREADY!" lol
