I'm not after that bunnies and flowers type of happiness. More like the dreamy feeling in alcest.

Really dreamy spaced out acoustic-y rock-y sort of stuff. Quite cosmically uplifting.

maia hirasawa.

it's really just cozy pop, but she plays and sings great. saw her today. She's got a song about the greatest city in the world to, so it's all good. :)

Oh, there's a Smashing Pumpkins album called Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness, I'd say that'd suit you down to the ground right about now.

Or failing that, throw on some cheesy britpop! Never fails to delight. The likes of 'Mansun', 'The Divine Comedy'.. Or maybe a bit of Manic Street Preachers, that's kind of grumpy music, but certainly not sad. Spice Girls are reforming, and I'm looking for somebody to take me to their gig if they play Ireland cos a certain meany peany pants won't take me. They rocked so hard when I was seven.

Grizzly Bear - Yellow House
It was recommended on this very forum, and I fell in love with it.

Stina Nordenstam - And She Closed Her Eyes
Beautiful stuff, a bit melancholy. But it makes me happy.

Foo Fighters.
The song "In Your Honor" has some similarities with Dev's solo stuff, actually...

Yeah man that one is awesome.

Personally I think that Foo Fighters first self-titled album is probably their best. And probably their 'happiest' as well!

I compensate this dark, sad, melancholy music thing by listening to:

- Ayumi Hamasaki (pure JPop, but she is so cute and well, jpoppish..)
- Ai Otsuka (see above, very good ballads!)
- Misfits (just loooove Famous Monsters)
- Anti-Flag (happy government sucks-punk)
- Synchestra  (well, you'd have to admit it's quite sunny album)

I had a great tip for you, but seems I forgot what it was

Tenacious D is fucking ace. Get their movie too :D
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is a great great album, although i just like about 1/4 or 1/3 of the songs

and my suggestion would be A.C.T. They are kinda happy-prog-metal.
people usually praise their "Last Epic" album a lot.
And here's their myspace:
