Ah thank you for correcting me!
I think I'll give this tuning a go sometime then.
Although the only thing that I wonder about now is how you would play chords in it :S
Is it like one finger across all the frets (the lazy way as I call it) or does it require just a little more effort than that?

You can find a lot of chord structures and stuff on the net.

The best thing I've found interesting about this tuning in particular is not the chugginess or low heaviness but rather the advantage of playing, for example, a song in the key of 'C' and using your open strings as much as you can (when playing random crap).

Another thing I love about this tuning is my wanker bedroom shredding guitar friends hate it so they leave my ESP alone. They quite often bag out open C but you have to realise that its almost like playing a different instrument.

If anyone is really interested in learning how to play this tuning a lot more effectively, I do have the original Devin Townsend guitar instructional video.

Looks like I'm off to scour the internet then. :)
The AAA tuning is starting to work its way into my curiosity haha.

Also, I was just wondering what model ESP do you own?

Well, since you only have one interval between the A and E, the 5th, when you just place your indexfinger on one fret over every string, you will get a 5th (or 'powerchord'), but much bigger sounding, because you're playing more than the usual 2 notes.
It's not really a tuning, created for chords, as you can hear on physicist. You can create some nice riffs, but I mainly use it for the fat, heavy sound.

Thank you (again!) for confirming what I had thought.
I haven't really woken up properly so my full musical knowledge isn't at my disposal yet.
Now I must sum up the energy to go and actually re-tune :P

LTD m-350 with an EMG 81 on the bridge.

In regards to the 'great average guitar video' by Dev, I'm torn. On one hand I realise its one of the most hunted down dev bootleg items and appreciate how rare it is buuuuut, on the other hand I'd like to share with everyone on YouTube...

I dunno, I'm thinkin about it.

Yeah I love it! And how I ended up with it is quite strange.

My bro really wanted a KH (custom ESP kirk hammet signature model), he's a former metallica hoob. Anyway, they told him it would take about 6 months to order and would be about $3k. After 6 months, they told him it would be yet another 6 months, he got pissed off and asked for something similar but LTD. He got my current ESP for about 1.8k but it had passive pickups (no EMG81). So even though he had an ESP he just wasn't happy because it wasn't the KH he wanted and after fucking around with the setup (he was only 15) too much he never got the action right again. On top of that he just loved his other jackson too much.

He eventually gave me the ESP for a short mic stand (seriously). Since then, I have gotten it serviced, replaced some missing parts and installed a meaty as fuck pickup, it plays like a dream now and every time I see my bro I tell him he's fucked and he's never getting the guitar back.

The tuning alternates between open and stardard C. Next is a midi pickup!

My only other concern about putting the vid up is that its not fair to people who own it, it becomes a lot less rare. I do own a hard copy but its still just a copy, its actually a video rip put onto DVD.

And fuck what Dev says its actually pretty good and explains open C really well. Maybe someone should make a poll questioning whether or not I should do it.

A very entertaining story, thank you for sharing it!

I couldn't even begin to imagine how pissed off your brother was when he was told that he would have had to wait another 6 months.

As for the video, at the end of the day its your decision, no matter what anyone else says its up to you whether you are alright with sharing it or not.

I'm sure it is an entertaining and informative video though :)

at the time he was a bit pissed off but he used the remaining to cash to buy other random stuff for himself so it worked out ok... and remember, if he got the KH then I wouldn't have my beautiful guitar.

I'm starting a post on crap names people give their instruments... Why I mentioned that now? Who knows.

Please man...share this video^^

I'm starting to play with Open C tuning on acoustic guitar, it would be great to see some hints from Dev.
