Now that you mention it, I also remember hearing about that. She's a good singer, she just happens to have radio-poppy music to go along with it, in addition to the sexually-charged image.

I'm smarter than all of you because there's a link to the Christina Aguilera article in my first post in this thread ;)

Ooh! ooh! Amy Winehouse. Completely forgot about her. I just wish she was as hot nowadays as she used to be

I didn't even notice that was a link until I moused over it. Touche, Biert!

Amy Winehouse does have a great voice, but I have to admit that she frightens me. :?

Great call, from almost 3 years ago.

Haha thanks!!! Let me pick another...how about Karin Dreijer Andersson? The Fever Ray album was one of my favorite last year and her voice is awesome. Very different from everyone else.

Curiously, my fav' music doesn't feature many women, and pretty much the only one I can say I've "been a fan of" is Shiina Ringo. As the name doesn't particularly imply, she's a Jpop singer, but saying just this would be quite a reductive description. More flattering, she's often been dubbed as some kind of Japanese Björk, not that they sound the same, but probably that like Dev of Patton, they're the kind of artists that go their own way.
She's gotten more mellow along the years, going more jazzy or bossa-nova, that kind of stuff, but her first 2-3 albums were full of very different tunes, mostly pop rock, sometimes a bit more electro, mellow, jazzy, often catchy, but also often noisy, with more distortion (and creativity) than you'd find in most pop-rock artist, or some bass driven songs with the guitar messing around in the background, and singing in a megaphone from time to time.
I could even say she has her own "Ants" song in the shape of "Stoicism", a really weird, cute, electronic tune, kind of sweets meet a video game, whatever.
And while her voice would probably annoy 8 persons out of ten, she's worth checking out. (Tsumigi Asobi, Keikoku, Benkai Debussy, Sakana, Byoushou Public, Meisai, "La Salle de Bain", genjitsu wo warau, gomatsurisawagi, kabuki...)
Regarding this topic, her first albums shared with Dev's the fact that there's a lot of stuff going on, now if anything worthy could result of a cooperation, I don't know.
