I hear ya! I don't tend to spend a great deal of time contemplating lyrics at all, but I love the fact that Dev's lyrics are whatever he wants them to be, unbound by the need to tell tales of black-clad Nordic Pygmy warriors and their battles with Satan's demented war badgers, or whatever.

Which can be fun, don't get me wrong... I like demented war badgering as much as the next man, but... yeah, I should probably stop talking now.

Probably should have a sentence earlier. ;) :P

First of all was John Dolmayan from System of a Down, I loved the sound and watching him play the intro of Chop Suey!, even though it's not that complicated, which I found a few months after playing. Originally I would liked to have played guitar because I love the sound that can be generated so much more than drums, but it all seems too fiddly and complicated, I would still like to though. Nowadays I would probably be more inspired by Mike Portnoy more than others. But also Gene Hoglan of course, I just can't comprehend how he and players like George Kolias can play the stuff they do, I find it hard to maintain a beat like that for more than 3 seconds. I would also be somewhat inspired in some ways by Martin Lopez, Raymond Hererra and a few others.

Biggest inspiration has to be Dev's performance on the hidden video on the Synchestra DVD though, fuck, that man can bash the skins like no other.

Picked up the guitar at 17 years old when I had Helloween and Metallica on constant rotation.

Dino Cazares and Tony Iommi, back in 1997 when I was 13. Tony made me start playing and Dino made me want to play fast and sharp.

Fuck... I forgot Tony Iommi. Ofcourse, he was a major influence, ever since I saw Paranoid on television.

James Hetfield.

He is the ULTIMATE frontman no matter what his band has become.

As much as Metallica shit me, I have to agree. James belongs on a stage with a guitar and a snarl.

gimme-FOOL-gimme-FY-gimme-dat-which-ah-desIRE.....YEAH-HEH!!!

I'm one of those people who lost interest in Metallica with all the stuff post-Black album. Ride the Lightning is my favorite of theirs, though, if I had to pick one. I'm more of a Megadeth fan in the long run, anyways.

Metallica, I was a massive fan as a teenager. Mainly the ...And Justice For All album, and to a lesser extent, the Black Album.

I recently picked up the guitar again, with the aim of learning it properly this time. Mainly because I want a musical outlet, and also because there's far too much seriousness in music nowadays, and people taking themselves too seriously in local music scenes, that I just feel the need to write stupid parodies. So I guess that's an influence too.

i always wanted to play an instrument, since i was a kid. My bro played the guitar, and my family once lived in this big house with a "basement", so my bro and his friends made one of the basement's rooms into a "studio". His childhood friend, who had made his own drumkit (really, he made it, and it actually didn't sound bad at all) never really let me near the thing
he always said "when you're 13, you can play it."

I was 6, so...

Also, i also always considered my hands to be tiny and sloppy  so i could never really see myself playing the guitar or the piano (the latter being my life's frustration for not learning it). Anyways, when i was about 13 (how providencial, huh?) i had a friend who played the guitar, a friend who played the bass and me, who couldn't play anything. So guess what? I went to learn the drums!

Never had a drumkit at home, so i basically am a master of Airdrumming, and all my practice comes from that :P
But hell, after 3 years with no rehearsing, i was in really bad shape, but i managed to play on this metal festival around here, so i'm not that pissed off with my skills (i do consider that i have a world of room to improve before i consider myself a decent drummer though).

Lately, i've been seriously flirtatious with the idea of learning the guitar, cause i have so many ideas that i'd like to record, but no guitarist to work with. So i said "what the hell, just try and learn it yourself, even though your hands are still small and sloppy!"

So basically, i have no idea who made me play. I guess it was myself, in the end, i never had too much of that "damn, i wanna be like this guy, so i'm gonna pick up this instrument and play just like him".

My very first inspiration to play guitar was most definitely Kirk Hammett and Metallica when i first started listening to metal. I listened to Kirk's playing and KNEW i had to learn to play guitar.

Soon enough i began to enjoy Pantera and Dime's stuff very very much so. But the thing that made me REALLY want to play guitar was when i first started listening to Meshuggah and Opeth. When i saw Meshuggah live i was absolutely blown away by their performance and how amazingly well Fred pulled everything off live and their guitar tone. After meeting Fred and telling him he was one of my idols, i couldnt believe how he smiled hearing that out of someone. Such a quiet guy too...but a god on guitar none the less.

Then Dev came onto the scene for me...i first heard Relentless off a headbangers ball cd and thought, ehhh they are ok but its so chaotic. Well once i heard Love? about a year later i fell in love! (haha imagine that :P ) and ever since Dev has been a constant inspiration to me in more than just the guitar playing field and will remain in the position of being one of my biggest influences.
