Repentance is probably my least favorite on the album, but its still pretty ok. In the Presence of Enemies is by far my favorite.

PROPHETS OF WAR, MORE LIKE MUSE OF MUSE AMIRITE?

Eh, Roadrunner has some cool bands amungst all the crap like Megadeth and Opeth and whatnot. Yeah, Prophets of War and Never Enough are very Muse-esque. Nothing wrong with that though ;p

Are you suggesting that Opeth is bad?

"Nah, only their first demo was good but then they sold out"

Quite the opposite, the singer on that album fucking sucks compared to James LaBrie, you'll be glad they replaced him :D

edit: The Electric Toad, he's saying Opeth is one of the good bands on Roadrunner, that sentence could easily be misinterpreted :P

No, I said that they had soome great bands among their crap, and listed Megadeth and Opeth as examples of the good bands.

Oh yeah--I'm loving SC. I'm kinda on good music overload right now--I go through some tough daily decisions like, "Do I listen to Ziltoid and then SC...or SC then Ziltoid...? Ah Fuck it...I've got two stereos. I'll play 'em both at the same time

My brother is a HUGE DT fan and loves this album. I really need to get it.

I hate LaBrie's vocals too until I heard The Human Equation...I had a whole new appreciation for him after that and now I like his voice.

My mother thinks the chorus of The Dark Eternal Night is almost identical to Genesis' Land of Confusion :P

I was a hardcore Dream Theater fan. I actually have all of their discography literally memorized (excluding the first album, which i always thought was kinda weak, and Awake, which i never really digged much), and i can play most of their songs and also songs from the member's sideprojects.

And it amazes me of how lame they are lately

I mean, ok, it's good music and all, but holy christ. Couldn't they copy other bands a bit less?! I mean, TOT at the time wasn't my cup of tea (as i was at the top of my prog-freakyness, and it was way more metal than anything they had ever done), but still, it had characteristic.

On their last albums they have only improved in one thing: copying other bands, namely Yes (which they've always done and it's the base of their style since Images and Words, so i can cope with that), Metallica and Muse
I mean, Octavarium is a pretty great song, but hell, it's also a copy-paste of "And You and I" on lots of parts. And again, i'm not a Yes fan, and could even be considered a Dream Theater fan, so i'm being unbiased here... About Syst. Chaos, it is an "okay" album. Rudess saved the mess that Petrucci and Portnoy are doing due to their mid-age crisis

and hell, quit copying metallica. Keep on the Muse though, the little details around Prophets of War is actually freshening to my DT-ears :P

Yeah, I see a good amount of Yes and Muse, but not so much Metallica. Can you give me a few examples of that influence?

just every heavy-metal vocal part since TOT on the verses that end with a hetfield-esque "yea-eah" intonation, the two times they made a version of a riff in Blackened (can't recall on which songs now, but i'm pretty sure i saw that reference twice  ) and the whole beginning of constant motion :P

Don't tell me that Petrucci wanks more than on TOT, that's physically impossible :)

So I've had it for over a week, but still haven't listened to it. I think I'm subconsciously avoiding my inevitable disappointment.
