Detected it today in store and thought about purchase. Sample ("Verdelet") sound like blackmetalish Type O Negative - worth purchase if I can handle black metal only as spice to another dish? Dunno about overall level of blackmetalness in it.

I LOOOVE that album! Second best ever, next to what I'm listening to now
It is quite black metalish I guess, but it has loads of death influences as well. Most common genrelisation of them is "blackened death metal" although I think it's more than that. Proggier, like Opeth, but a bit more obscure with black metal influences? :P
You've heard "Verdelet" which is on their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/akercocke. You might also try "Leviathan", although from a different album it's pretty much the same style. Or maybe you can have a quick listen in the store? Most music stores provide that service ;)

The new album is a lot more 'evil' though. Doesn't quite match up with "Words..."
