Deth, are you ... eh ... time traveller? I mean ... no I haven't heard ancient Americans sing thousand years ago, because that was ... y'know ... thousand years ago. I'm interested in those gutteral vocalisations you were talking about. Who recorded it and how does that person know how they sang back then?

I must say I can't agree with you, for me the two periods are totally incompatible, we don't even know what primitive experience is, far less do we know what primitive experience was in those days. We think scientifically, they didn't. If death metal uses growls, that is simply not enough - in my opinion - to link it with the old ages. If we lose it and mosh like crazy, that is not the same experience like in those days. It's all inscribed differently. I mean, do you know what my problem with your thoughts is?

Well there are afew ways anthropologically that we know at least some of the ancient vocals and songs. There are ancesters of these ancient people around the world in pockets that have preserved said forms. I was working in north Canada where I met natives that sang in ways unchanged in millennia. Incredibe sounds howls chuffs growls ancient words to ever quickening rythim. Natives in African countrys that still do it way old school, conveaying stories of war and altered states and legends in partial language and sounds beyond and proto language.Metal is the spawning of human music bringing the knowlage of all music back to the alter of the primitive original. Passionate, driving, muscular, mystical, primal LOUD aggresive. All the trappings are there. Heavy marking (tattoo, scarring) Gliph/pictograghic graphic avitars.SYL/ ZOSO. What's the next music after metal??HHHMmmmm

This may sound like a cop out but for the most part, I understand Goats and everyones imput to this idea. Pointing out differences is the norm for scientific reductionist thought and a usefull and valid method it is. It's successes speak for themselves. However there are other ways to view science which have meritt particularly at this time in our evolution, which can be described perhaps as renaissance. A revivalist merging of art and high science. The Alchemicist mix of reductionist science and the persuit of arcaine relationships. I believe the time of differences is comming to the end and it is now time to tear down the walls. Everything is now merging macro/ micro science, music art/science You can only separate things so far when everything just snaps back together. There will soon be no such thing as superstition as it will be easely seen that NOTHING is infact impossible, only undiscovered Heavy metal is just one example of a spawning of intillect/art, whatever that will soon supernova into the next norm....total freedom or total slavery. Or maybe I just smoke too much pot;-)
