What do you guys think about him?

Personally, i find the man to be a genius musically speaking. He not only had awesome ideas, but he had complete technical control over what went on in his head, and fuck, you can't really hope to "reinvent" jazz in your own way without having that :D

I lso love how he was one of the only people who got the balls to say what he thought on politics while actually KNOWING what he was talking about, not just complaining randomly like most people do :P

anyway, here's the video that inspired this thread, it's some TV show where he discussed whether lyrics and albums should be censored and stuff like that.

Frank Zappa..if anyone should be appreciated, it is that man. Was a living testament to the word "integrity" if there ever was one.

Yep. Zappa was a musical genius. Just look what sort of musicians he had to get himself surrounded with to pull his shit off. I mean

On the politics issue in the vid Yanko linked. He knew what was the essence and what was bullshit and how not to give the other side the chance to turn his own words against him. His answers were laconic and to the point. When asked "Do you think (REPLACE an idea that is supposed to sound proposterous)?" "Yes." And the other side was left breathless! I love it. He knew it would get him nowhere using more words, if anything, those words would only become the material the other side could spin around and use it against him, for they would never see the point he would be trying to get across. That's a freaking method!

I appreciate Frank Zappa

Anyone read this:

"Shortly before his death in 1993, musician/composer Frank Zappa planned to make a film with the members of MST3K. Zappa and Kevin Murphy had several conversations on this subject."

Taken from IMDB, not sure how true it is, I question everything I read.

The show had written quite-a-bit of references to Frank Zappa. It sounds believable.

btw, just struck me it would be an interesting piece of random useless information-junk: anyone knows/ever seen any statements from Devin related to Zappa anywhere?

to be honest, i can't stand 90% of his Mothers stuff. The musically crazy shit (and not just grimy recorded tongue-on-cheek 60's experimental lyric-based music) is what makes me love him :D

There should be way more posts in this thread than there are, and there should not be a post saying "I hate Zappa's music." :P

I love Zappa, not absolutely everything from him, but quite a bit of it. He was, without a doubt, THE musical genius of our time.

The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life is one of my absolute favorite live discs. So incredible.

No way, no how could I give a concrete list.

I'll just say that it all started with "Joe's Garage" for me.

I very much admire Zappa, although I've never owned a full album..mostly because there's so much to choose from and I don't want to get the wrong one and have it put me off
