actually i'd have to agree, really surprisingly good

Really? I was wondering about these guys, as I usually detest this sort of stuff, but I heard the single and loved the big Queen-type opening, if not the rest of the song. Might have to sample an mp3 or two to see if there's an emo-style band other than Coheed and Cambria that doesn't make me want to vomit violently.

(My own 2006 list to follow when I get a chance to think about it)

I canNOT believe I'd forgotten this one:

Eric Gales "Crystal Vision"

Thank you, kyl88, for reminding me.

Oh, and the flack about MCR...listen to the album WITHOUT prejudging it as emo. There are strains of Pink Floyd, Queen, and some good ol' 80's in there, and it's done well. Plus, kevetch all you want, Gerard Way has one hell of a voice.

Did I mention tasty solos? Good vocal harmonies? Hmm?

Oh yeah, and Eric Gales slays on the guitar

This year has been so good, it's not even funny!

I'll TRY to do a top 10...

1. Scott Walker - The Drift
2. Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
3. The Roots - Game Theory
4. Joanna Newsom - YS <--- biggest surprise of the year for me
5. Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra
6. Current 93 - Black Ships Ate the Sky
7. Peeping Tom - Peeping Tom
8. Foetus - Love
9. Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
10. Isis - In the Absence of Truth

BOY was that ever tough. I didn't even get to include Bob Dylan's newest and that one was fantastic. Same goes for Ministry, SYL, and a handful of other bands.

Yeah that's a great album.

There's a surprising number of good proggy-emo bands... Protest the Hero, Circa Survive, Receiving End of Sirens, Thrice... probably a bunch I haven't discovered yet :P

Also I appear to have forgotten Estradasphere's album from my list. And I just heard Danny Elfman's non-soundtrack album and it's great too.

1.Amorphis - Eclipse

Just when I thought this band was dead and that Koskinen had lost his voice...
New singer and the best album from Amorphis ever. Simple, honest and awesome music made for the sake of music.

2.Tool - 10,000 days

Never liked Tool before this one. Took it's time but this one really grows on each listen.
