i already did something like that, feels weird indeed
at least it's fresh :P

and yay for the interlude! i don't need to feel dirty for having the longest track

about the questionary, here's an idea of what i think it could be like

- Artist -

Name:
Date of birth:
Place of Origin:
Instruments:
Small bio:

finalizing idiotic question, you can even pick your own (like "what lady underwear would you use" or something  )

- Song -
description of the song, if you want to, on the making of it, general explanation, lyrics, that kind of stuff. (this is which i actually think would be the most interesting field to fill)

-Final notes from the artist-

write whatever you want here, thank your mom, that kind of stuff

a profile pic or something would be cool too

my 2 cents :D
what do ye all think?

i could make the page, but unfortunately i have nowhere to host it

[edit]
small update: i've found some free hosts that seem to be ad-less, which i think it's good enough
i've registered hdas.4000webs.com and hdas.awardspace.com, i'm gonna check out which one looks better, and then aparently we'll have a host for everything, and we can even put the whole album for downloading :D

I use Winamp as well, and that minute (my-noot', not min'-it) pause between tracks is just an issue with Winamp and has nothing to do with your CD.

I also noticed that you have my track listed as 1:59. Did you cut something off one of the ends of the track? If I remember correctly, it's somewhere around the 2:04 mark. Just curious.

As for the questions, ask away. As I am currently still job hunting, I have oodles of time to answer all the strange, disgusting, freakish questions you care to dream up.

As for the hosting situation, that sounds fine Yanko. I think we should also have an "official" MySpace page, that way people can stream the songs, and the songs can be rotated around so people can check out different tracks. I think we should refrain from allowing downloads, though as there may be copyright issues. What does everyone else think about this?

Heh, I thought you might notice this. Dont worry, I didnt crop your song. The length is different simply because your song crossfades into the song before and after it, and I have simply set the cues a little bit closer. Im sure all the song lengths are slightly different for this reason. However, everybody has their complete song present. In some cases there is also an extension to the intro or something, but that is all. No cutting! Cutting bad!

i actually think we should make it all avaliable for downloads. Cause this could be in fact some kind of "promotion" to the bands and artists. At least i will make mine avaliable to anyone.

Besides, there´s this thingy here

http://creativecommons.org/

i´ve never read through the whole thing, but it seems like the best alternative out there to releasing free stuff. I mean, there´s no profit interest, and they´re all pretty much homemade productions (at least by what i know), so i don´t see many reasons for not making it free to download.

Obviously, the people who wouldn´t like their songs roaming freely around the net could just send an email and ask monga not to put that on or something like that.

I think think that if we get all the songs nicely tagged, with links to the page and stuff like that, would be great to both musicians and general public! After all, we´re not famous enough to be pirated on p2p or torrent

and there´s 2 big bummers i found out last night:

1- the uploading and CHmodding on 4000webs seems not to be working
and
2- they don´t allow files bigger than 500kb =/

i think the best solution would be creating a soundclick page for the project and linking it from the page.

This is actually a very good idea. I can register a soundclick page just for HDAS and upload the whole lot. You could even fit most, if not all, of the bio info on there.

It wouldnt be perfect, but I know the site (I have my own soundclick) and it functions well. This could enable you guys to hear the finished product a bit sooner also!

Though I will still be making hard copies for anyone interested. The sound quality will obviously be better on those. I got my printable CDs today and have already experimented with printing some covers. I am going to have to try a few things before I settle on something definate.

Cool.

I agree on the bio thoughts. I can email everyone with a standard set of questions and collect as much info as possible. What questions could I ask? I expect some people may be busy and such, so any information is likely to be incomplete. Any thoughts on a place to host such information?

As for the actual album...did I say final track listing? Well, here is a more final listing:

1) Intro - Blazingmonga - 1:18.120
2) Mouth For War (Pantera Cover) - Atomic Ants (Olive?) - 4:18.960
3) Humid Skies Of Darkness - Vortech (Torniojaws) - 3:13.093
4) October - Suicide Safari (Earworm) - 6:32.093
5) "Interlude" - Gozu - 7.320
6) There's A Cup Behind You On The Thing - Stewart "Stewbacca" Horsfield and Pat "Patty Pat" Wiblin (via Mo) - 3:52.000
7) Deus Ex Machina - Silentist (TeamJonny) - 4:27.146
8) When Oceans Switch - Danra - 4:03.773
9) Dark light Over Blue Skies - Shopping Kart (NotSoSilentPete) - 4:02.133
10) The Cosmos - Greg Reason - 4:39.586
11) Adrift - Dreamwalker (A-Daamage) - 1:59.226
12) Cheese Based Mongalude - Blazingmonga - 3:41.306
13) Compact - Terraformer - 4:38.253
14) The Triangular Murders of Rue St. Claire - Yanko - 6:37.826
15) "They're not even a real country, anyway" - Blazingmonga - 4:33.506
16) Canada (Marimba Version) - Armheadmcgee - 4:46.613
17) Moth Wing Mountain - Josiah Tobin - 4:35.573
18) The Bloated Climax of Doom - Blazingmonga VS Josiah Tobin - 12:24.920

Total running time - 1:19:51.653 (Thats 8.347 seconds short of 80 minutes...yay! Or...oops.)

I am listening to a CDR right now of the above mix. I have normalised the audio such that all tracks are of approximate volume. However, given that all tracks sound very different with different instruments, mixing and styles the overall sound varies quite a lot. I tried to take advantage of this and make it all flow as smoothly as possible. I guess it will be up to you guys to tell me if I managed or not! Oh well, that has been half the fun of it.

So basically right now I am sitting (metaphorically) on the finished album. Finally! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

I will pick up printable discs tomorrow. I can then make the buggers! Just need cases which I will pick up maybe next week. Alternatively I have a stash of 20+ recycled cases (old demo discs, etc) that I could use if I cleaned them up a bit. Maybe that could be the green option ha.

Oh, one other final (err mostly final) thing: While listening to the CD audio through my computer using Winamp, I was unable to get the tracks to flow seamlessly. Even with using my 'gapless audio' plugin, audio was being missed between tracks. However, this is definitely not the case when you play the CD in a CD player or listen to MP3s of the same audio. Maybe this is not a problem in newer computers, but I just wanted to point this out. As I put a lot of effort into the transitions between tracks, it will sound a bit odd if you are missing audio. Take heed!

PS: Monga's final thought: Don't drink orange juice after eating mints. It's neither big nor clever and will surely sicken you.

Hey man your awesome, you've put in a lot of work on this thing. Thanks man! :D

Some advice for you, Monga: If your printer came with the "Epson Print CD" software like mine did, there are some settings I would recommend if you plan on having artwork stretch from the edge to the center. You'll need to adjust the "Set Inner/Outer Diameter" settings, which is the yellow CD icon on the left of the interface. Change the Inner diameter to 38 mm and the outer diameter to 118 mm. That should spread the print area right to the inner and outer edges. When you do this, you'll get a warning dialog box informing you about printing outside the regular area or something similar that you can basically ignore.

Also, I had to change the "Adjust Printer Position", which is the green CD icon, to 0.2 mm to the left. Of course, your printer may be printing dead center and you don't need to consider this, but the inner and outer diameter measurements I mentioned earlier should be changed so you get the most of your printing area.

Thanks for the advice A-Daamage!

I have so far printed 2 CDs, and they look funking amazing! The printer doesnt take it quite the edge of the disc, but I dont want to waste too much ink and discs fiddling around with it. It looks damn good at the moment.

As for the rest of the artwork... I have totally finished the back cover (under the CD tray) and it looks totally awesome. Its all black and white, but I think is very presentable. I would like to use colour, but then I need better paper also and so it becomes less feasible. I'm going for simple but neat here!

I also have a couple of different designs for the front cover. I will be printing a booklet also with notes on the inside, again very plain. I can do plain very well, I think heh.

I havent made a move on the soundclick page yet, maybe tomorrow I will have the time. That shouldnt be too difficult really though.

Getting closer still...! Yay!

Everyone can have one, so long as I can afford to send them. As I am producing the whole thing myself, the cost is very low. The main cost is postage, which for a single CD is not too much.

I was talking to Biert about this the other day actually. Ideally I would like to do all this for free. However, I am also open to trade for copies of this disc. It was that same attitude that kind of inspired me to do this in the first place. I have recieved many discs and things from people on this forum, and all for free. If I can do the same in return then that will be great! If anyone wants to send something to me in exchange though, I am also happy to do that.

Its all about passing the love around. Yeah baby.
