Bullshit. This was one of the better matches of this tournament and one of the better finals I've seen in my 33 years.

Congratulations Italy.

^ But this is sad.

And the video of the Materazzi fouls did piss me off. I don't know if I want to know what he said prior Zidane's mental blackout...

Well, the first 10 minutes and the first half of the overtime were good. But the rest was pretty much, what I expected (Two defensive teams neutralising each other). But you are right, it was one of the better finals.

Before Zidane's incident I think it was more Materazzi Vs Football but unfortunately everybody will forget what this guy did yesterday and in other games while Zidane will be remembered to be pushed to the limits.

"succa algerino di merda"

I will let you translate this Mo but apparently from official sources that's what Materazzi said to Zidane before he spits on his head. As a professional football player Zidane should not behave this way but Materazzi and some other cheaters are just too good to be blamed everytime they forget football, that's a just a shame.

Italy did not control the game anymore and they used this magic known as provocation to destabilize Zidane and Trezeguet. If it's just related to football rules, no problems, but as you can see it is not. Penalties were the only hope for Italy and they knew this. I don't speak about all these fouls at the begining of the game and in the extra time. On one side you have guys like Thuram, defender that played 121 times for France and that never got a red card. On the other side you have guys like Materazzi that are obviously here to break players, provoke them and that play for Italy and become champions. I feel sorry for professional football.

Bur yes Mo, congratulations to Italy anyway. We will meet them again on the way to Euro 2008. Zidane won't be here but our friend Materazzi will be remembered, for sure.

I think it's pretty stupid what Zidane did. Whatever Materazzi said, it probably wasn't pretty, but it's plainly stupid to headbut someone in the chest in the last game of your carreer, the game that should have been the crown on it.

Materazzi is a piece of scum. He's been a good boy this tournament, but in general he scores more red cards than goals I believe.

And the game... it wasn't very good. Could have been a great match if Italy wouldn't have scored so soon, they played very good in the first half but the second half and extra time were just horrendous. Totti should have been replaced by Del Piero early on in the game. And if Inzaghi would have played the last 20 minutes, he'd have scored the winning goal in the 87th minute.

Anyway, congrats to anything Italian!

In all honesty I've never liked Materazzi and feel it is disgusting what he did. Even before I knew what he had said I assumed he must've said something really bad. So while I am thankful for his contributions I do not appreciate his methods. Sadly, Zidane should've also made an example of how to react (or not react) in this instance and so

A lot of people don't appreciate Italy's style but they stuck it out this world cup and truly deserved to lift trophy. While defensive football has come under so much criticism, Italy gave it an edge and they ventured forward. Players like Grosso and Zambrotta who are defenders coming up and sniffing at oppurtunities endlessly. Cannavaro was supreme and played as good as any world class supremo defender should play. Gattuso was magnificient and seemed to be in almost every challenge I saw. And we can't forget Buffon!! That save was unreal! I really can't complain about anyone (except for the poor displays by materazzi and de rossi in getting sent off in earlier matches and materazzi's words to Zidane).

Italy went the whole world cup conceding a crap own goal and a penalty. Why is it sorry for professional football? How are Italians supposed to feel about that?

So I finish by saying FORZA AZZURRI

Well said Mo. I agree.

And don't forget that Materazzi was a reserve. He played only because Nesta get injuried.
And Nesta is a much better player and a much better man than Materazzi.
Materazzi this time was very lucky... In 2002 he was one of the players that contributed to kick Italy out of the World Cup. He don't deserve this victory... He don't deserve anything. He is a "Shitman" (as we like to call such dickheads).

that goes for totti aswell

i think the 2 playes that deserved to have that cup most were easily Pirlo and Cannavaro.

I feel sorry for professional football because the FIFA authorites let provocation change football rules. When you reach this level of intensity in a final and you have racism and insults that make surface that's intolerable. It would have been fair to see Materazzi punished too but he was not and the guy is now a hero in Italia. If you look at the video, before shit happens, Materazzi waisted Zidane. Trezeguet got his shirt ripped by another player too but apparently referees did not see that :?

Now as I said earlier yesterday, nice to see the Italian football gets something more positive than a mafia reputation because I think what happens in the Italian league now is just catastrophic for their integrity.

I agree. But I would add in the list also Grosso, Gattuso, Buffon and Zambrotta.

Mmmmhhh... Don't be so sure about that... He is not that loved here... Even if he scored 2 goals in this World Cup.
He is still what he always has been.
