GAWD-damn it dev! Play slows me down at the London, Ontario show! lol

I wasn't saying that he should have or should not have done the solo, I was just saying that he didn't do it when I saw them . I do agree with Tracy though, that it was and should be a Steve Vai thing.
If he did something different there, that might be cool, it was kind of a long section without a solo, but all the same, I heard it in my head...so...

I saw the first show in Vancouver, the setlist was the same, except for Bad Devil at the end. Vampolka/Vampira were the encore songs followed by Bad Devil. He didn't try the Triumph solo the night I saw them

Why would he even try the solo? Wouldn't that be ultimately cheesey? I think so...

The solo is a Steve feature and to try to do it live would be just begging for criticism. Not that he couldn't play it, it's just that people would be looking for fault. "Yeah, it was good but he missed this or that and it really didn't sound the same". It can't sound the same, they have different styles.

But that's just me...

Orrr... What if people said, "I saw DTB last night. They played "Triumph" last night and Dev did the whole solo! OMG, it was better than even Vai did it. Dev shreds! I don't even know why he let Vai do the solo on the album in the first place! Probably just being nice to an aging guitarrist."

I would just like to throw in my .02 on the subject...

He didn't play THE solo from Triumph, he played HIS solo for the concert, and I was grateful for it. I knew Dev could play. Had to, since he was the backup guitarist for Steve Vai during the Sex and Religion tour. I never realized just how GOOD Dev could play. When Tracy says that he COULD play the solo from the album, she's not being a supportive wife, she's speaking the truth. But, Dev plays guitar in a manner few know how to. There are TONS of great guitarists, but few are good at conveying emotion through the guitar, or to speak lyrically through the guitar. Dimebag Darrell, Ty Tabor and Devin can, and Dev does it exceedingly well. I was astounded how emotional he can make the guitar sound. I don't know about "better" or "worse", all I can say is that now that I have the album version, and got to hear the concert version, I am one lucky guy.

I REALLY wanna hear Dev sing the clean female vocal part in Pixilate. Thats my favorite part of the song.

So did Dev make up his own solo? If he did thats what I would have wanted cause thats definitely a solo spot. I dont care if he plays the Vai solo or not, but if he doesnt play any solo, it wouldnt be as cool.

I honestly think an attempt to make the Vai solo sound Vai would be cool, but it may create controversy among Vai fans or whatnot.
