Kristopher wrote:I was at work the other day... setting up a single mackie system (waiting for synch on the double with subs) and it was fucking amazing.... I turned off the low cut on the speakers (powered mackies rock!), I was running it through a DVD player into my Soundcraft desk( actually not too bad eh) and out into the powered mackies... no amp necessary... and fuckin hell it filled the function room with all its glory!!!

Now when i have to set up a quadruple mackie system in a ballroom (4 in the roof and four on the floor) , two subs in the right place.... and BANG
SYNCHESTRA is going to wake up perth!!!

I love the sub 50hz range when used proper

Where exactly do you work? And can I work there too?

Mmh just one thing, you talk about active sub, are there passive sub too ?
If so, what's the difference ?

I recently bought a 2.1 kit (logitech Z2300), of course it's not professionnal or high-end audio stuff but I find the sound pretty good (with a bit of equalizer tweaking), the bass are great.
(it'd be better if the satelites were 2 ways rather than one but it's already quite good as it is^^)

An active sub simply has its own amplifier built in, whereas a passive sub requires that you power it from a seperate amplifier.

That's probably the right answer.

Okidoki, thanks^^

So that's only when talking about high-end equipment I guess (like pre-amp, amp, cabinet and whatever^^)

My little 2.1 (well not so little for a desktop 2.1^^) is enough for me

(but I understand some with crap speakers must really miss a part of Synchestra without a sub :? The speakers in the car are not that good and when I push the volume a bit, it's more noise than music on every bass beat)

I try to use them in my songs, but they get distorted as fuck. Anyone want to give me some tips on how to avoid this?

it happens but you can use whats called a ducker which, if I'm not mistaken, brings down the levels of the mids and highs as to allow full awesomeness of the bass hit.

I've found this also happened when I began experimenting and it kept distorting all the beats during the bass hit.

To be honest, I could be talking out of my ass but this is what my friend has told me and I haven't really experimented that much since.

I think he's tried using bass booms.

You're running out of headroom in your efforts to make it loud and present in the music. The boom will need to be fairly compressed, and you may choose to mix it in such that the booms use up to -0.2dB of your headroom while the rest of your levels live around -4dB - -3dB so the effect is more noticeable. Have a play around and see what you think.
