You're not comparing Machine Head with Slipknot are you!!!???

Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

Actually I'm usually very understanding of people's individual tastes, but Slipknot are one of those few bands that are so terrible that I simply can't help but criticise. Don't mean to offend ... or maybe I do

I think he means that for some people Iowa is a metal album that 'started it all' for them. Isn't that what you mean, King Fear? Not that the music is similar anyway.

I like slipknot.
And I suppose I feel - that no explanation is needed.
Musical taste is a weird thing. I like brussel sprouts too.
They make (brussel sprouts that is) some people chuck.
So what...........
But why in the hell did it become so faux pas in the metal world to like slipknot? or not like them for that matter?
I feel like I'm in grade 6 wearing the wrong jeans...........
............. and the wrong shoes.............
and..............
I'm 40!

I like slipknot.
In fact - I want to rub all 3 albums all over my body!
.... and goop it all over my chocolate ice cream too!

Mainly because no good can come of listening to Slipknot.

Let's face it, evry moment spent listening to Slipknot is a moment of your life you can never get back. Is that really something you want to look back on while on your death bed?

Never cared much about Slipknot until I heard "The Subliminal Verses",
which I think is a fine album. They may be nu-metal, but they
are at least inventive and I think that album was a bold move.

Any moment spent listening to any band is time you can never get back. And good can come of listening to Slipknot: you might enjoy it, or yourself, or both.

It hasn't happened to me but I believe it has happened to others.

I dont listen to Slipknot anymore. I do like them...or did...Their music makes me want to hurt people. (Quietly starts tying the headphone cord into a nousse) I think the silly-ness of the masks and dress up kinda ate away at their street cred. They are not Gwar or Alice Cooper, good music tho, well at least until the last album.

Burzum, if slipknot aren't metal what are they? and why aren't they metal? What criteria of metal don't they reach?

A babble of noise does not make them metal. Now, people will disagree on exactly what makes metal metal but as far as I and many, many others are concerned they are essentially just heavy pop. They are what teenagers listen to in the belief that they're listening to metal, yet it contains few of the elements that comprise metal itself - the freedom, the ability to explore music without limitation, the crunch and the beauty that can compliment one another. More importantly, they're crap.

And lyrically ... "If you're 555 then I'm 666'. That just screams 'We're trying to sound evil because it's cool to be evil' while ignoring the elements within the music that lift it above the crowd.

Let's make a list:

Immortal
Emperor
Immolation
My Dying Bride
November's Doom
Amorphis
SYL
Nile
Bathory
Burzum
Iron Maiden
Opeth
Dark Tranquility
Carpathian Forest
Farmakon
Darkthrone
Slipknot

See something wrong with Slipknot sitting on the bottom of that list? If we was to draw a family tree with perhaps Black Sabbath, Venom and Death at the start and Maiden shortly after I'm sure we could conncet the dots to all of those bands ... except one.

Sorry to stir the boat but metal CAN be one of the most limiting genre's there is.

Ever had to hear black metaller's discuss what is true and what isn't? Why would there be these concerns?

While I agree there is many bands who are different and stretch the genre, but why is there so few? Because very many bands still value the boundaries of each sub-genre they play and for this reason metal CAN be limiting.
