Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

What a fuckin weird day.... Before I say anything about any other band I just have to say that The Mars Volta played the greatest show I have ever seen in my life. I think it was the first time they've ever played the song "Frances the Mute" as well, which was fucking incredible. Words can't describe just how amazing it was.

The strangest thing was the talk of Big Day Out trying to phase out metal bands. Everyone was talking about it and then Mudvayne got four and a half songs into their set and the power got cut. The didn't get to play at all after that and the fans went nuts, throwing mud at the stage and being dickheads in general.

Now I don't even like Mudvayne, but that was a weird scene. The singer came out to wave goodbye to everyone and turned around and gave the finger to the Big Day Out stage hangings... Obviously it's a bit hardcore to assume that the power was cut deliberately, but it was a strange thing to happen, and no other band missed any of their set... Interesting also that Meshuggah were booked to play BDO but they pulled out at the last minute.... I would have cried if that happened to them!

Onto other things, Common was amazing. It was one of the most inspirational hip hop shows I've seen, and Edan did really well with that also. Henry Rollins said some damn depressing shit about guys getting forty percent of their brain blown out during the war and urged everyone not to give in to "coldhearted, greedy motherfuckers".

I ignored The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand and unfortunately TMV were on during The Stooges and I could not walk away so I missed that too, but TMV was like a religious experience so I don't mind so much.

Wow. I'm still debating about whether to go to the Perth show, that may have swayed me to go. But there's nothing other than TMV there for me anyway (except Cog who are playing at the same time... stupid promoters....put the 2 heavish progish rock bands on at the same time....idiots).

Henry Rollins would be interesting, and so would the Stooges but alas guess what? Same time as TMV! Festivals....

Might have to watch Wolfmother and Mudvayne to attemnpt to get my moneys worth...

Having said that, can't wait for West Coast Blues n Roots.... Sigur Ros are coming! And Public Enemy too!

I saw TMV last year and that was one of the worst shows I've ever been to. They sound great when they actually play any of their songs, but when they suddenly decide to do some shitty improvisation for 20-30 minutes through 547 effect pedals...

OK my friend Jake just went and spoke to Mudvayne and they said they don't think it was intentional. They believe that it was an actual power failure and that they just happened to be the band that were onstage at the time. Giving the finger was just an amusing way of saying "thanks for fuckin up our show"...

As for Meshuggah's BDO deal, Fredrik just told me they got the offer but never actually accepted it because they are taking this whole year off to build their new studio and record their new album... so there ya go.

Wow, that would've single handedly made this the greatest BDO ever. Of course they wouldve played the same time as TMV or something stupid. Cool that you managed to get in touch with Fredrik.... is that on their forum or something?...

And is the East Coast Blues n Roots the same as the West Coast one?

If you are going to listen to music other than metal  then listening to Common is a great way to go . Intelligent, moving rap. The guy is way up on my cool list...check him out, kiddies.
