Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is not a cold dead place at last.

Bought today:

Midnattsol - Where Twilight Dwells
Nile - Annihilation Of The Wicked
Akercocke - Choronzon

Hey, Hellhammer, what did you think of Midnattsol?? I've been reading all these amazing reviews of this CD and it didn't impress me much. It's good, but it's no different than any other goth-oriented, female fronted metal band out there. I could name ten other band in three seconds that sound like them! I was expecting much more with this CD. :(

Well. I agree with you that it isn't this standout piece of work or anything.. I mean, you can clearly hear a little bit of all the female fronted bands and such. But I think I got what I payed for, Carmen's voice is very soothing and I like it very much, and I find them to be talented musicians, and thats all I wanted with it, I didn't need to be blown away. I've seen some pretty mixed reviews though, I think one mag gave it a 1.5/10(Can't remember which one)

And today I bought:

Testament - The Gathering

Yeah, I like it all the same, but I've read nothing but glowing reviews, you know? Oh well...

The Gathering is a killer album! So heavy!!

Tell me about Yob! There are two CDs at the store down the street and I see they're on Metal Blade, but their songs are like 20 minutes long so I figure it's either really self-indulgent prog-metal, or instrumental wankery.

Actually.. To the best of my knowledge, they are stoner doomish kind of stuff. And that would be the best reason why their songs are so long. Want a long doom song.. Dopesmoker by Sleep, now that is long and droney.

Hmmm...weird. The best doom, to me, is shit like Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus (the best doom metal band ever, IMO).

Yob is slow and heavy doom, a bit in the vein of Electric Wizard & Orange Goblin combined.

Are you dumb or something? You mentioned doom/stoner music, I simply expanded on that!

Hey Hey! I am not dumb, maybe I was just really tired and read your post in a different way than intended. :(

EDIT: Infact that is exactly what happened upon further review.

OK, fine. You were dumb for a moment. You are forgiven.
