Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

Listening to Vapor Trails Remixed. I know it sounded pretty bad before, but it wasn't Death Magnetic bad. Why have nearly all of the drums been replaced? It's so obvious, it's... so sterile and weird. :?
I suppose that the two versions of One Little Victory are now very good examples for when someone asks "how can you hear when the drums are triggered/replaced?". I'm not sure if I'll listen to the Remixed version from now on though. Maybe I just have to get used to the new drums, but it'll always sound weird in the back of my head.

Something completely different; a forum I've been active on for 6 years/have been mod/admin on for the past 3/2 years is shutting down soon. I'm sad to see it go. Luckily a lot of the members are active on the Facebook group though.

Yep, though it's usually because I'm actually supposed to be doing something...

Quite a coincidence, the exact same thing's happening for me too. Though I've been just a regular member. That forum's been running - and me being a member just as long - since 2008, and now it's closing because the forum service provider is shutting down all their free forum sites/templates (whatever those are called). Fortunately, the admins backed up the forum content and set up a continuation at another forum hoster. :)

At the moment there's about 1 hour 50 minutes till the old platform goes offline. Goodnight, sweet prince. :dead:

Interestingly, that forum goes back way more than 2008. It was originally the forum of a Finnish radio station which I joined back around 2003 or something. Eventually, the station overhauled their site completely and implemented a shitty quasi-facebookish approach, but retained the supposedly obsolete forums until 2008, when they pulled the plug on it, prompting the migration to the forum that has now moved over to a new provider.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The snare on the remix isn't that great, the punchy kickdrums I can live with. Rest of the instruments/vocals are much cleaner though due to less excessive dubbing, so I still find it an improvement. :)

Edit, from my sister's party:

Michael couldn't find a trucker to kill in time, so he raided an op-shop. Yeah.

I looked at this on my phone first, and it was very dark, so I thought that was actually your face. Scared the crap outta me.

I'll take that compliment!

It's ladies' fashion day at work tomorrow, because of the horse racing going on. Considering wearing my most offensive shirt for the hell of it.
I'll probably just lumber out of bed and grab the first thing I see, though.

Got a first taste of the new and improved Youtube comment experience. Another tech rant coming up...

It really puzzles me why Google has to make changes seemingly for the sake of making changes, and nearly always for the worse. Now they'ev butchered the whole commenting feature of Youtube. (not that it's necessarily a bad thing for the most part of the realm that is YT comments... )
Anyway, now I can't seem to be able to reply to like 90% of comments, the button is just not there. Same for the thumbs up/down rating, mostly gone. The links to show the comment replies are made for just reloads the video page you're at, without any other effect. And when posting comments, Google seems really hell bent on getting people to share their comments on Google+, and indeed, some comments say "via Google+" on them.

I got the imperssion that this was somehow supposed to improve and enhance the conversations one sometimes sees occurring on YT. Way to go crippling it all, Google. And no, I still have absolutely zero interest towards Google+.

Doesn't really matter unless some other videostreaming site starts to compete with youtube. These monopolies will eventually strict internet freedom a lot I feel, and that sucks. Everyone who is familiar with the front page of Reddit knows what kind of boring shit will dominate visibility once an audience grows too large.

I agree, Google's mastery of YouTube has made it more insipid than usual. Just as well I rarely rate or comment on a video (I'm only there to watch).

I'd say this sums it up:

Presently streaming music from The Faceless, as they are playing alongside Nile tomorrow night.

Impressions are similar to Dethklok and Opeth, though I doubt I'll become a converted fan. I also find it funny they have a song called Accelerated Evolution.
Still, as a live band they might be fun to watch while having a beer.

...And if Google's messing with YT comments wasn't enough, now the users themself are ruining it even further by spamming their "Bob and his tank/plane/whatever" shit all over the place.

Now that I got this yet another tech rant going, I wonder if it's just me or are Tumblr pages often prone to hogging RAM like there's no tomorrow?
Here I was, surfing with around 15 or so tabs open, one of them a short Tumblr blog page. Firefox starts to feel more and more sluggish, then it crashes. Restart and it reloads the tabs, I think it was just some glitch after having the browser on for some while.
But no, the sluggishness is back almost right away. Checking the task manager, I find Firefox using over 1,4 gigs of RAM. Somehow I get a hunch it could be the Tumblr page and close it. Now Firefox uses around 400 megs of RAM. Seriously, ONE page - and a short one to boot - hogging one gigabyte of RAM?

Not sure if I mentioned it specifically here, but I moved my family 1600 km north to a 3 bed country house on 10 acres. We're visited daily by Australian magpies, kookaburras, noisy miner birds, butcher birds, rainbow lorikeets, king parrots and blue faced honeyeaters. Hoping to add a few more species to the list once we set up a proper wild bird feeder. Our neighbours (aka in-laws) have been feeding these birds for years and all the birds seem in rude health. They also have resident ducks, swamp hens and plovers around the dam. So yeah, birds.

Moved to the Brisbane/Ipswich area mostly for family, but a welcome bonus was to be the stable, warm weather. Melbourne's chaotic weather is quite irritating when you have a young family that you want to take outside often, along with the fact that my health can apparently be influenced by variable pressure systems.

So what happens? We get 2 weeks of bloody tropical storms! On the upside, the water tank is full, the dams are full and the grass is green.

Now jealously eyeing off the neighbour's dam as it's much bigger than ours and would be perfect for stocking with some kind of fish.

Back to reality, we'll get fencing installed in the next couple of months so the lad can play in a secure yard without us being quite as feverishly cautious about him even considering looking at the dams.

Anyway, life is very different now. 2 months ago I was a stressed out public servant, living just off a super busy road in Melbourne. Now I'm an unemployed city boy with no country boy skills, living on acreage, wondering how the fuck that just happened, but also feeling very grateful that it did.

Picking green tree frogs off the car to keep them safe, and being greeted by kookaburras on the front deck... I could get used to this.

Those settings remind me of my first residence in this country (particularly the birds), although that was about 60 km northeast of Melbourne, about 40 minutes from the Gippsland border.

It sounds like it might be good for your health, physically and mentally. Best of luck to you.

Any Excel/Visual Basic pros here care to help a poor Faffy out? Stupid university homework is keeping me up at nights. :? Trying to program a macro that only records columns adjacent to columns with the number 0 OR 1.
