Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

my friend just alerted me to this album today. i love marillion, but i've never been a fan of fish. this album is partly co-written by steven wilson though and it's pretty damn good. this song is particularly awesome.

I'm almost a little ashamed of this, because they definitely have questionable moments... Coheed and Cambria- Year of the Black Rainbow.

They've always had a few songs I've LOVED (The Final Cut(live version) and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3(live version) are two of my favorite songs. The Final Cut is so fun to jam!) and some I've hated. (not really into the whole new pop-punk sound), after a while of dancing around it, I'm diving in and listening to their albums, starting with the latest one. I honestly can't say I hate it, so far.

When the time and place are right, the experience I get listening to this is beyond words. So dark, yet... so oddly soothing, in such a strange way. The album itself is a masterpiece of ambient music; highly recommended to anyone who's interested in that kind of thing. Steven Wilson is the man, and there's very few musicians aside from Dev that I'd say that about...

Don't ever feel bad for liking Coheed. They fucking rock. That goes for all of you. They fucking rock.

bass communion is the shit, yo. i wish more fans of steven would listen to that and I.E.M, but it seems like they mostly tend toward the poppier, more traditional stuff. the man can certainly rock the pop side of things, but personally, i think he's at his best when he's krauty and droney.

i so happen to be listening to....

Excellent.

Isn't it though? Can't wait for his new stuff coming out later this month.

I'm not finding too much in new metal that gets me excited these days, but that may just be about me. In any case, Cloudkicker is one of the exceptions to that. Beautiful stuff. His music has a quality I can't quite find the words for. Maybe it's that combination of very precise rhythms and weird time signatures interplaying with that vast bowed guitar sound. There's something otherwordly about it all. I don't know why but my mind connects his music with Iain M Banks books. Playful yet epic.

So yeah, like I said, I don't have the words!
