i'm not a huge fan of anneke's vocals with DTP (i know, i know i'm just not into female vocalists in general), but it just now struck me...

'numbered!' is QUITE reminiscent of this with the chorus effect and all, and all of a sudden it makes sense and i can get behind her input now. i've been listening to this album since it came out and amanda kramer has always been an exception to the rule for me. her voice is so ethereal, but it also has such great body and strength.
this a brilliant album. it's a shame that it's so obscure.

Y'know the deal, just Mike Patton, doing what he does and making crazy noises with his voice 8) .

Ok, so I picked up the new Steel Panther album because everyone everywhere has been raving about it. So... Am I missing something? I get the humor, sex and sticking it in different holes jokes, but honestly, after about five or six songs it just gets old. Alright, haha, you have a huge dick, haha, you screwed a bunch of chicks. Don't get me wrong, some songs are hilarious, like Why Can't You Trust Me, but as the album goes on the joke just wears pretty thin. Then musically, I guess they're a more skilled, slightly less generic version of Mötley Crüe, but there's a reason hair metal died: it's inherently generic. So as good musically as they are, they're stuck being generic because it's glam. So I get what they're going for, but... Why does everyone like it so much? I'd pick Zimmer's Hole in a second over Steel Panther for this type of gimmick.

You have to be of the age for it.

I find it funny and enjoy it but it's not as much my wheelhouse as some of the others.

this album is rad, solid as hell. there's not a bum song on it. it sounds pretty dated, but in a way that i really love. more stuff i got into as a kid because my dad played it frequently. he never liked this song though, which boggles my mind because it's probably the most intelligent song on the album because it breaks the pop rock thing and becomes this kind of ominous epic. one of my favorite ending tracks.

It's kind of like 'Nam. You can't understand, because you weren't there. I lived it, man! The 80's are my 'Nam!

Yeah I was going to say much the same thing, although I haven't heard the full album so I don't know how well it travels. But just in terms of the band, there's an element of nostalgia aimed at people who grew up idolising bands from that Sunset Strip era in the 80s. In that sense actually comparing them to Motley Crüe is sort of missing the point. It's equal parts nostalgia and piss-take with a dash of quality musicianship and a shitload of fun. Keen to hear the album in full to see I they can sustain my attention for the whole thing.
