The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

My favorite thing about the Ki album is how you can listen to it numerous times and it still sounds/feels like the first time. I think its because of the vibe, atmosphere and clean guitar choices. I hope Ghost has the same effect on me.

I mean, it isnt only exclusive to the Ki album, just something about it feels refreshing each time...

Ki was a direction that I really explored while writing these 4. There was a series of 'Ki' type material that was too atmospheric to mix with Disruptr and Gato etc... so I decided to go whole hog with an album of atmosphere.

Ghost is the light desert after the main course :)

I remember wondering what the dessert album would be like back when you announced the DTP; glad to see that it's such a ridiculously cool direction.

Ghost sounds amazing, especially Fly and Heart Baby.

Moonshine sounds fun too.

Yeah, keep in mind I'm only a week and a half or so into it... so no real guitars, vocals, flute etc... compounded by shitty-ass rough mixes.

It's less like Ki than it sounds at this point.

It's a really cool, enjoyable listen...more welcoming than Ki, while simultaneously being less accessible.

But really... released on it's own it could very easily fall by the wayside, as it doesn't demand much. But together with Deconstruction, it'll be some serious polarity...(which is really the point more than anything)

...why it's important to me to make that the point I don't really know though :)

The last '2 at once' trip for me was AE and SYL, and they both suffered as a result... AND I had a staff of people.

These two are a 'one man show' ladies and gents. Budgets have gone down for me by at least half, so I edit it all and do all the grunt shit on them as well. It's tiring to say the least, but I've got some good movies. Doing Ghost first allows me to capatalize on my current jones-ing for recording by using that energy on the subtle stuff. What makes or breaks the Ghost material is HEAVY attention to subtle things. If I did Ghost after Deconstruction, there's a real high probability that I wouldn't know what to do. (Sensory overload)

What I've noticed about Ghost:

The emotional content is exhausting. Ki was such a long time coming that it affected me while recording, but just enough to remember how it went. Addicted was occasionally overwhelming in a euphoric kind of way (it was hard to get Ih-Ah and Awake done particularly...) but Ghost busts me up non-stop. Not so much in a 'it's beautiful' way, but more like 'this is fucking heavy' ... obviously not musically heavy, but lyrically and theme wise, it's super vague, yet the odd phrase here and there makes me realize that it's summarizing itself before my eyes. And really, it's touch and go right now. I know it will turn the corner to where it will step out in full view and I can say 'ahhh THERE you are...' but it's elusive in the same way Ki was.

So it takes more work than I was planning, but thats always the way. Problem is; Touring and rehearsals start soon, and then BAM, Deconstruction. So without rushing this, I'm kind of politely trying to coax this deer into the clearing...

all good in the hoodie.

Oh and btw... if Ghost was an afterglow, that would mean what... standing in the kitchen at midnight in tighty-whiteys eating a bowl of shreddies?

Casanova...

I was thinking more of standing in the bathroom, wiping one's self off with a dirty towel that smells a bit like mildew, with the whitey's around the ankles while softly crying with regret.

Or is that just me?

I think that is one of the thing with your music. It's complicated for it's kind and it's really emotionally heavy sometimes. Ravi shankar for example when recording he's music, it's really emotional music that touches one but it's as simple as he goes to the studio with his sitar, puts a mic to it and he plays the song.He tells some quotes and he's done. Basically. Thats the thing i dig about your music, it's emotionally heavy AND theres so much energy put into it theme and productionwise. All albums has their sort of "worlds". Best way to describe it is that i always come back to your music because it's in 3D. I have some really awesome awesome music like Gojira, Behemoth, Sotajumala, Meshuggah, ect but it's awesome in the 2D. You can bang your head to it. With your music i can choose to bang my head to it or cry to it. Because it's so big.
Theres another group that i grew up listening to with my father called Tangerine Dream witch in some way is really 3D to me as well

Keep it up because what you put into your music is what (in my and i think in all other peoples ears) making it so great.
cheers! :)
I just popped a zit on my shoulder and it flew right into my eye lol. Never never happened before.

Thanks for the Ghost video footage as it gives good insight into a lot of what you are talking about lately! Often words are not great at describing music.

What's the story with the budgets though? Is it a general industry thing or just for these two albums? I mean how much will the lower budgets affect your vision for the end projects!?

Its quite strange to read your explaining of how strange or vague your work can be. Interesting. Indeed.

Well if it's any benefit I, and i'm sure many fans, would much rather you delay something than be unhappy with any aspect of either works.

It won't be delayed, and it won't be compromised.

In terms of budgets, if all I had was a 4 track machine and zero money I'd still find a way to get it done.

yup!

hiding behind trees, going to a dated rave, smearing shit all over yourself, then playing bad fingerstyle...

...I'm still leaning towards the food analogy :)

Hmmm, sounds good. Just not sure what this "foreplay" thing is. My wife has mentioned it a few times. I was thinking it was some new boy band or something.
