That happens with all my songs too. Mainly because the production is always so stressful, and I can't deal with it.

I think what people like from the catalogue is as much as when they started following Devins work, or anyones work for that matter, as their own natural tendancies. I checked out SYL the other day for the first time, and didn't find anything about it interesting much. It had good moments and whatknot, and the great dev style and sound, but just seemed very plain and ordinary in comparison to other work with no depth or immediate meaning to it. Maybe this will change with listens.

Production wise, Physicist is a fair deal better than every strapping album except T.N.B to my ears (although alien is close). Sounds pretty good to me. But I can see what you dislike about it... and I mildly dislike that too, but it's equal to my mild dislike of Synchestras production, which sounds almost over-produced. Especially the drum sound which sounds very similar to the one you used on Ziltoid (the snare and bass drum!). I hope you don't use that drumkit from hell or whatever for the next ZTO. There are much better drum machines out there IMO. And some of the best ones I've heard I think are self-made kits using a variety of samples from different places/machines. I'm sure you don't need to be told that Addicted sounds great!

I guess that's one thing you don't have to worry about so much with albums like Ki or Ghost. Must flow that much easier on the production side.

Don't get the point why "Force Fed" gets so extremely overlooked by nearly everyone. To me it's a hymn for eternity: the lyrics! the amaaaazing vocals! not to forget the killer riffs, that track simply rawks :guitar: hardly played live anyway... but lucky me its on the FTATR DVD :patrol: what a performance...

Anyway, I still wonder how Devin can "keep" his mood for weeks as it seems, considering since how long he states to be in ghostly mood  ... well my mood changes - exaggerated - 30 times a day, but that just proves once more that he's an Alien and that this record is the real s/t by him...

Synchestra was my first attempt at really mixing. On a flattering system, it sounds great. On a normal system it sounds pretty weak IMO. Trial by fire though and Ziltoid was a bit better. Ki and Addicted were quite good, and I believe G & D are better still...

I thought you'd been mixing all the way back to OM & Infinity...Didn't the Infinity credits say the whole thing was basically recorded, mixed, obsessed over, etc. by you? I'm confused. :P

Oh right, shit I forgot about that one... Maybe I just blocked it out :)

actually, I guess what I'm meaning is Synchestra was the first 'in the box' mix, infinity was analog ( well, adat...)

I have ALWAYS done relative levels ( louder this or that, echo on this etc...) but in terms of engineering sounds and compression etc, Infinity was the first one, then Synchestra was the first 'inside the computer' type mix, then the rest since then have been all digital.

I'm trying new stuff with Ghost though, some cool new ideas. Hopefully I can include some clips of that in the new YouTube clips next week

Got ya, I need to stick it on a high quality system as mine is fairly poo!

Excellent! Got me even more excited when I thought it wasn't possible.

One thing I have come to respect a lot is Analogue in everything. I know digital makes things easier etc, but give me analogue any day. I have come to dislike some my Line 6 type poop for this reason. Perhaps the best future is analogue/digital working in harmony. Don't even get me started on CGI in films. :P
