His voice brilliantly takes those songs on the dangerous path between faithful and cheesy, resulting in something rather awesome and lighthearted, as well as sort of anachronistic. We'll see how it fares overtime.

It's definitely getting better with repeated listens for me. I love his sense of perverse bravado, dark romanticism and dramatic flair. Not necessarily evident everywhere on this album of course. This feels more like a tribute, Patton style, rather than his usual genre hopping and his almost childlike love and enthusiasm for every style he attempts shines through in this one. I say childlike not in any kind of negative sense. He has a cheekiness about him, like an overly intelligent 6 year old saying and doing things to cause a reaction among supposedly more intelligent adults if you get what I'm saying.

Admittedly though my exposure to and knowledge of the style of music he's going for on this album is very limited.

Which of course is a situation that will soon change.
Heh heh, thanks again Mikey.

I don't know why, but I got the new Secret Chiefs 3 album early, it's mostly remakes of old tunes (using that term lightly), but it sounds really awesome. I highly reccomend this album, Satellite Supersonic, Vol. 1, 9 awesome and totally unique tracks of music.

Cop Shoot Cop - Ask Questions Later - Surprise, Surprise

These lads were actually really, really good... Shame they didn't last longer.

Agreed, Tod A's follow up band Firewater are damn good though.
Got their latest one there recently and I've been listening to it pretty regularly.
