Ki is an extraordinary album, one that in some ways changed my life.
Havin' been a metal-head for some years, I always knew about Devin Townsend and his works, but for some reason I never sat down and listened to what his music had to say.
Then, by accident, in 2009 I heard Lady Helen somewhere, maybe on YouTube or something, and I thought to myself; "This I've got to check out!". So, I "stole" the album of the web, and as if something from above told me to, I uploaded the album into iTunes, turned off the lights and the computer screen, pressed play and just lay in my bed.
I don't think I'll ever fully understand what happened to me then, I wasn't asleep, I wasn't awake ... the music just raised me to a higher place (N.B. never been a religious person).
It's definitely one of the albums that I will hold close to the chest until I lose my hearing ...
"I have my own particular sorrows, loves, delights; and you have yours. But sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, love, belong to all of us, in all times and in all places. Music is the only means whereby we feel these emotions in their universality." - H.A. Overstreet
