May as well be playing an upright.

Steve Clark from Def Leppard was doing the low-slung guitar in the late seventies and the eighties. I'm sure there were earlier examples. I remember on Classic Albums the other band members said it didn't exactly help his technique, but he didn't give a fuck about technique anyway!

Strapped. Check here about 1:08:

He must be picking strings somewhere over the neck, must be pretty impossible to reach the pickups.

Will it ruin my credibility if I say it's a nice song, by the way?

They are a good band, and really fun to see live.

But yea, he doesnt do Crabcore, he just has his bass hanging stupidly low and always has.

I was just thinking this! I was talking to my brother last night about people who wear their instruments too low - Trujillo came up first  I don't understand how he can play like that! =O

My vote goes to bloke from Sevendust

Oh Eff, that is just getting ridiculous. He just has to be doing crabcore all the time, or how else does he play? He must look like an orangutan when he's playing  What a noob.

And that Steve Clark bloke isn't much better :?

Look how high Petrucci wears his guitar. But he's a guitar wizard, looking cool isn't important when you're a guitar wizard.

It makes it alot easier to play the speedy tech stuff, too. It was funny, as I watched a band over the years slowly raise their guitar as the music went from slogging out three chords to become mad sweeping solos of madness.

This is true. I used to play lower, closer to waist level. But over time I realized that the more technical stuff needs easier access, less arm stretch.
