Nay, optimistic.

You must remember, the Japanese don't have souls. Therefore they don't hold the same silly morals that we do. They will fuse techno, metal, and hip hop into one song. They will add light effects and expansive stage design to make the show better. They will embrace cliches and shamelessly crowd-please. And they will draw cartoons of women having sex with tentacles.

All of the above is completely objective. In our culture, it's considered bad. In their culture it's considered good.

Alucard, the hell are you talking about? Dir En Grey is metal.

Yes. Tentacles are serious business.

Seen them live too. They are brilliant.

Oh, and there is plenty of jrock bands that are just as heavy as Dir En Grey. xD

Actually saying that, it bugs me a lot of people judge japanese bands based upon the fans, or general culture, rather than the music its self. And the tentacle thing isn't the main part of it either. It's the whole minority ruining the masses as per usual. [/rant]

People don't know what the japanese culture is. They base it off of what they see here (anime).

Also I know the tentacle isn't. It's just funny.

What really bugs me is a lot of people going into Japanese music culture with westernized view of what music is/should be (And by bugs, I mean it's also funny). It won't work out too well if you do.

For me, its Malice Mizer, Some of Gackts stuff, Miyavi, And D'espairs Ray - They played superbly yesterday!

D'espairs Ray were pretty good. And the bassist made me laugh. Happiest metal head I've ever seen.

Yes. Another difference between Japan and the rest of the world is the sheer level of optimism in most of their music. Because who really wants to be depressed or angry all the time?

(I'm looking at all of you fuckers)
