Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Tonight Triggerfinger :D

What album should I check out to listen to Oceansize? Last.fm recommends me them based on Dredg and Porcupine Tree.

*interest is peaked*
Yes, do tell Biert.

For that matter, I haven't heard any Dredg before, but I've heard a lot about them from people who like Opeth, PT, Tool, etc. which are all right up my alley. What's the deal?

Well, I only just got one of their albums, El Cielo. It's a concept album based on Dali's Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bumblebee around a Pomegranate One Second Before Awakening. It's pretty cool stuff, but kind of hard to describe. Not very guitar centric, a very "clean" vocalist. I'd give that album I have a shot.

Well Oceansize have 3 albums. Effloresce (2003), Everyone Into Position (2005) and Frames. For starters, I'd recommend EIP, or maybe Frames... Personally I like EIP better than Frames but Effloresce I would consider their best effort. But it's a close call, all 3 albums are great!

On their MySpace page (www.myspace.com/oceansizeuk), try Ornament/The Last Wrongs (yes that's 1 song). It's been voted their best song multiple times (it's on EIP by the way).

Stereophonics - 28th Nov - Colston Hall Bristol UK

warm up gig

bloody excellent.

why don't kids today realise when they're listening to metal? How much more gloriously loud do you need to play guitar in order to feel the need to go mental. couple of slow tunes and singalongs but the straight out metal stompers were the ones that got the biggest cheers. way too civilised audience wise.

Cool! Thanks! I'll look into it. I actually really like clean vocals - I often prefer them to grunting and whatnot. So that will at least be agreeable with me. I'll check it out and let you know :D

Cool, and thank you too! Everyone Into Position sounds like the winner for right now. I'll check out the myspace some more and come to a verdict on them. Doesn't take me long to decide whether I like something or not. Thanks for the recommendations! :D

Did they play anything from Focus, or just a bunch of new stuff?

By the way, their new album, Traced in Air, is pretty damn good. Pity it's only 35 minutes long.

Just like the first one. I think they're bit lazy.

"Traced" is great, though. And digipack with it is one of prettiest I own, some lovely art there.

Saul Williams. It was one of the best things ive ever seen. the energy was amazing. at one point saul jumped into the middle of the crowd and everybody was dancing around him, some kid in front of me (he looked like 16) was so into it that he kept fainting and just had to leave :P . he played 3 encores. it was amazing. Saul has a shitload of energy. he was going absolutely nuts the whole gig.

Yes El Cielo is brilliant. Really diverse.
The newer album Catch Without Arms is a lot more poppish but still great in its own way. I got hooked to Dredg by the first two songs of Catch so I'd recommend you gave them also a try.
