Anyway, a few days ago I finally saw Borat - which was good, but not as good as I hoped and as I also expected it to be - and, right after that...

Although I have to mention that this trailer doesn't quite represent my impression of the movie. The way they're used in this short clip, those stop-motion effects seem to be a nice visual thing that underlines the story, but when I watched the whole movie it all seemed much more bizarre. Well, and the trailer makes it look like a romantic movie - maybe it actually is one, but the overall strange tone made it more than this.

Conclusion? Hm. Definitely not as shallow as one could think after those two minutes - yeah, you could say that I'm not that happy with the trailer - and although I found the ending a bit unsatisfying, I'd definitely recommend it when you have the chance to see it in a movie theater near you.

In the theater : Borat, It was nice!

At Home: Enter the Dragon on HD-DVD, fucking insane how well the movie looks in High Def, over 2 hours of bonus features too.

PS HD-DVD> Blu Ray, I own both players and Im gonna be buying HD DVDs only if I have a choice between the two.

Well that trailer reminds me quite a bit of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, which also could've come across like a romantic flick but was far from normal. Quite good actually. I'll have to check out that movie for sure.

Breathtaking action. The story is pretty cool, the movie develops well, but the AMAZING thing is how the director managed to put you LITERALLY as if you were inside the action in 3rd person at all times. The photography on the more action-based scenes is identical to war documentary, so it's frantic and you literally get glued to the screen. Other than that it has these few awesome token characters that are unique and funny as hell. I totally recommend that one.

Guillermo del Toro is awesome. Guillermo del Toro with a huge budget is even more awesome!
This movie is a masterpiece. It's not for kids, as it may seem. It's basically 2 movies in one: there's the world a little girl sees, and the real world, amidst the Spanish civil war. Violence, beautiful story AND the best production design i've seen in quite some time, all the monsters and fantastical creatures are completely unique in their own way. Never forgetting it's scary as hell sometimes
Just lose whatever pre-concepts you might have about it and WATCH THIS!

This is the best movie i've ever seen. Really. In the same lines of Pi, when it deals about existencialism. I'll just say this about this movie: you know that feeling you get when you show Devin's music to someone, especially the more mellow stuf like in terria, the person doesn't like it, and you think "BLEH, if you don't like it, you just can't grasp it"?
THAT'S this movie. It's just plain awesome. Go see it and pay attention to everything about it. And the most amazing thing is: Hugh Jackman's acting is FLAWLESS

The Fountain was a great movie, I saw it with my friend and afterwards we just walked out of the theater and wandered around for like 5 minutes without saying anything before realizing we should probably be heading towards a bus stop. I don't know if I liked it as much as Requiem for a Dream, because some parts of it were kind of hokey, but it wasn't as depressing.

The last movie I watched was In This World, a drama in the style of a documentary that takes you through the voyage of two refugees going from Afghanistan to London. Very good movie, it really makes you feel like they just had some cameras following around two actual refugees. There were some voiceovers give it a slight political overtones about how much is spent on bombing vs how much is spent feeding/housing the populace of the bombed country, it never really gets preachy.

Good to see some Hugh Jackman appreciation. He's one talented chap. The Fountain looks like just my sort of thing.

Cabin Fever and Ju-On 2. Fuck both!

Ugh... A friend dragged me to see Borat. That movie is the most difficult thing I've ever had to watch... Ahh jeez. Had my eyes covered half the time. It's like a really really really really uncomfortably awkward scene x1000, repeated a million times with some very disturbing lines from 'real' people. I can see how some would find it funny, and maybe I'm just too self-conscious, but DAMN that was really fucking hard to watch.

The fountain looks very interesting though... I might check that one out.

EDIT: I forgot, the most recent movie I've seen would actually be V for Vendetta, on DVD... I really liked it! Maybe it's because I haven't read the comic and can't compare the differences, but I thought it was a great movie-- V's character was incredibly charismatic, and there was some excellent acting by some of the supporting 'government' characters.
