Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Between the Buried and Me at Leeds. The gig wasn't perfect: the support band (Animals as Leaders) were on for a little too long, and BTBAM weren't on for long enough. They didn't play "Fossil Genera", "Sun of Nothing" or "Backwards Marathon", probably my three favourites. Tommy's vocals were mixed a little low, too. Otherwise, they were excellent. They played flawlessly and Tommy was giving it his all on the mic, practically leaning out into the crowd at times. After the encore most of the band leaned down to shake hands and sign stuff - I got my ticket signed by the bassist. Good stuff, all in all, but they should have been given another half an hour, at least.

Hell, what a boring band now.

While I'm not disagreeing with you entirely, (and PT used to be great live at least from when I saw them around Fear of a Blank Planet) King's X kick all amounts of ass.

I'm bringing this post up from the depths to say Kings X is in my top 5 best concerts ever. Probably the tightest rhythm section I've ever experienced, and Ty is a killer guitarist with great tones.

Weezer - Didn't play a SINGLE song off of Pinkerton. And they played a cover of that god-awful Pumped Up Kicks song... Would've been a huge letdown if they hadn't been putting out lacklustre albums for a while now. But still, nothing off Pinkerton?

Jane's Addiction - I'm not the biggest JA fan but Perry Farrell has great stage presence and I could feel their energy. When they started the set there were two girls (one on either side of the stage) suspended from wires swinging back and forth, swamped in red lights. It was a good way to get the crowd into it. Not that, you know, they weren't already.

Social Distortion - Never heard them before. Good fun, and I think of the bands at the festival their music sounded the best.

Danko Jones yesterday, while not exactly my cup of tea it was quite energetic performance and I really liked drummer's handy work. And come to think of it, this was first time in ages that I went to see band that has only three members.

Other than Devy? Turisas! Don't really know much of their stuff, but they were playing right near my house and I thought it'd be a good night. And it was!

Lots of chanting, lots of jumping around. Little bit of moshing towards the end, during "Ra Ra Rasputin" and "Battle Metal", which felt about right. It was worth my £10; can't say much more than that!

I actually remember one of the support bands more than Turisas - a Taiwanese metal band called Chthonic, who had a brutal vocalist and a rather attractive bassist wearing leathr, whom I got a photo taken with:

(Apologies for the sight of my dissected-frog-like body; it was bloody warm in there after all the moshing.)

Red Fang : they were alright, never heard them before, and they did good. Kinda low-key, they should have turned it up to 11. Good opening band.

The Dillinger Escap plan : Had never heard them before either, and hopefully never will again. What a truly atrocious set they played. Running around jumping on fake speaker and amps, jeering at the crowd. Those -core bands really are not my thing, and it seems it was the case for most of the public, as they got booed.

Mastodon : Well the singing still ain't great, but it's improving. I really prefered their setlist from the last tour, but then I feel The Hunter is weaker than Crack the Skye. Still a great show.

This all made me realize just how lucky on the so many great shows I've seen this year.

Aliases - Blooming tight!
The Ocean - This was the third time they'd seem them and thanks to some sound issues, the worst (still a great performance by the band though, especially considering they'd apparently travelled 22 hrs to get there) They really are right up there with the best bands around, just great stuff.
Textures - the new vocalist was great live, very polished performance...the set list could possibly have been a little more dynamic

My November gig-gluttony is now complete!

Yeah, Stratovarius next day after Danko. Can't really say anything really, except beer was good and plenty. Music itself was generic at best.

Saw Breed 77 Unplugged last night, t'was gooood. Not seen em play for quite a while but we all go a long way back so it was nice to see everyone! Set up the camcorder at the back and videoed the set for the band, came out pretty awesome.

Took some pics!

Rush on the Time Machine Tour

I went to go see them with my dad. He was in a progressive rock band in the 80's and he loved Rush. When he was in his last year of high school, Moving Pictures came out. He said it was truly amazing to see that album played in it's entirety, 30 years later, with his son with him. That album still rocks 3 decades later. The production was awesome and of course so was the band. I think Geddy had some inner-ear monitor problems for the first couple songs: he was constantly touching his ear and was a bit off key for a few seconds, but eventually the problem seemed to be fixed. Looking forward to seeing them on the Clockwork Angels tour next year with my dad again.

One of my favourite authors, Joe Hill, hates Rush... and, judging from the references in his first book, Nirvana too.

And here I thought they were loving references (to Nirvana).
