Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

So last night my friends wanted to go see Inception. Which was nice, because I took a ride with them and saw Origin instead.
Pretty hard show I saw there :P Origin are heavy as hell and sooo fast, on the edge of what's physically possible. And the bass player! Unbelievable! I had a good time :D

Ey I met the bass player from Origin before the show at the Engine Room in Brighton (tiny place!) with Misery Index, supporting Necrophagist a coupla years back. Nice guy, and yeah he's fookin insane on the bass :D Great gig!

Next one for me, other than Bloodstock (which i'll review... maybe :P) will be Killing Joke in london for my birthday, should be a good un :)

Hah, that's funny. Their new vocalist Micah is actually a former bandmate of my current housemate from a band called Sol Asunder. He's a great frontman, though. I'm sure the show was great.

I saw Soundgarden at Lollapalooza on Sunday and it was on of the best nights of my life. I could not tell that it was only their third show in 13 years. They were mindblowing.

I wish Sol Asunder had better production because their music is pretty interesting.

He and I agree with you, but Sam joined the band while they were already recording their last (and probably final release). Sam and I went to school together, and he got his degree in audio engineering, so he wanted a crack at it, but they're more or less on semi-permanent hiatus. Everyone moved on to the much less entertaining Ontogeny, and they're working on a pretty cool acoustic project which doesn't really have a name yet, but it's my favorite thing they've done, at least around the house.

Gojira were awesome, spotless performance and amazing energy and all that shiz. Their soundguy was ASS. Feedback throughout the whole concert. Almost couldn't hear the guitars. Mario's drums and Joe's vocals sounded great though. Awesome drumtech. Purified in Blood were the warmup act. I was standing in the middle at the front from when they opened the doors, along with tons of 14-15 yo kids. I want to kill them with fire. I was of course expecting a moshpit but I wasn't prepared for being choked by the guy behind me, that was lame. And then there was the mental vocalist. Jumped off the stage several times throughout the set, and 3-4 times he jumped right in to the crowd and in the process, hitting me in the face. I moved way back for the two last songs. He did a huge leap off the stage and right onto the ground. He opened up an old wound he had on his forehead. Lulz. In a few years I'll be Gojira's soundguy and I will make them awesomer.

Saw Karnivool last friday. Easily one of the best live shows I've ever seen. There were probably less than 100 people in the venue for them, so it was easy to enjoy to music with room to breathe. Their singer is one of the best I've ever heard live. He was incredibly on point and didn't sound off at all.

This band has a live sound that is on par with bands like Opeth and Porcupine Tree, as well as their performance.

Definitely in my top 5 shows of this year, which also includes Porcupine Tree and DTP.

The Dear Hunter, Porcupine Tree, and Coheed & Cambria. Frigging wow. The Dear Hunter were spot on live. I'm not as familiar with them, but not a note seemed out of place. I
m convinced I should listen to more of their work. Porcupine Tree had an incredible show. The lighting, the projection show,
the atmosphere. And, of course, not a bum note that I could catch. I was floored. And, lastly, Coheed were just
great. Tons of energy, and you could tell they had fun on stage- A lot of big grins. I can't claim they were perfect,
though, the guitarist had some tuning problems during a song- you could see some displeasure on his face, too.

Saddest thing about the night was when some of the Coheed fans shouted at Porcupine Tree to get off the stage. I was near
getting into a confrontation with the guy next to me, but I contented myself with trying to drown him out. He and I were close
to the stage, so we could be heard. If anything was to be heard, I wanted it to be positive. In fact, at one point I shouted
"STAY ON STAGE, PLAY A MILLION SONGS" over top of his bellowing. ..........And the guitarist totally heard me, looked
down and grinned. Mission accomplished.

Nice one man, they really deserve bigger crowds than that, but good to hear they put on a great show.

They're all over the place nowadays, huh. Seen them yesterday, together with two supports - Polish deathmetallers Masachist and Lost Soul.

To be honest, supports were pretty dire. I can appreciate some death metal, Sceptic or Decapitated are mint - but these dudes, especially Lost Soul were textbook examples of br00tal death lack of imagination. Blast on blast with blasts + low tuned guitars, tremolo picking, nonsense soloes and attempts at looking as though as possible. Eh-metal at its finest [(c) Alucard]. Masachist were bit better, especially when stepping off the blasts for a moment - sounded tighter and more selective than Lost Soul too. But still pretty standard stuff.

Ok, then arrived Gojira and mopped the floor with everyone. Tons of energy, audience went me(n)tal too. There was decent sized cirle pit at Flying Whales, people tossed in general direction of stage and all. Setlist highlights: Heaviest Matter, Backbone, Art of Dying, Indians (hurrah!) and Vacuity and Love on encores for good measure. There was also dedication for Nergal which was nice touch too. Fantastic live band :>

Some movies, including Flying Whales and its circle pit.

I attended the Cleveland show, and had a similar experience. The Dear Hunter were pretty good, and PT and Coheed were both tight as hell. I had seen Coheed in Michigan back in May, and I thought that was a much better show overall (perfomance, setlist, crowd, venue considered). But PT really blew me away, and hearing Coheed play "When Skeletons Live" in the flesh was jaw-dropping. My biggest complaint about the night was definitely the crowd...if it wasn't the one weirdo uber-fan confessing his love for each member of PT between their songs, it was the same three idiots drunk on shitty Bud Light trying to crowd surf over and over and over. And the entire crowd just didn't seem as receptive or joyous as the crowd from the Michigan date. It wasn't my first experience with a disappointing crowd in Cleveland, though...

Speaking of prog shows, I decided tonight to drop $110 to go see Rush on Thursday here in Pittsburgh's new hockey arena. Should be a good show, eh?
