I don't really feel that way about JP. He doesn't act cocky or arrogant in any of the vids and documentaries I've seen. When they're showing in studio stuff he's not going LOOK AT ME he's sitting there going sup. It's abit cheesy/pretentious (whatever) with the zoom-in cameras on the live stage but I mean, it's Petrucci/Rudess, everyone WANTS a closeup of them playing. It'd be a lot more boring if they didn't have the video stuff when playing live.

I saw the New England Death Fest. Well, until an old Devy-show buddy pointed out the bartender who couldn't bear the idea of putting guinness from draft into a dinky plastic cup. Then I sort of stumbled around and may have flirted with chicks alot judging by this Meagan person in my phone I don't recall ever meeting.

In my opinion JP's not full of himself, he's a total nerd In behind-the-scenes stuff, I've never seen any indication that he's an ass_hole. Alucard's right that technicality doesn't necessarily make music good - but in DT's case, IMO their music is still cool while also being really technical. Technicality and awesome can coexist
It seems like the shy ones are the people who put on a big show and go over the top; but off stage, they're a completely different people, if that makes sense. Gotta watch out for those tricksy, sneaky shy ones, my precioooouuusssssss =D

Truth.

Trust me, I know that technical music can be awesome. I listen to some of the most ridiculously technical stuff out there and love it. That still doesnt mean I find DT interesting. I do enjoy some of their instrumental parts but Labrie just kills me with his over use of vocals. Dude likes to hear his own voice too much.

Saw Textures for the 5th time (at least, I lost count) and some other bands last Sunday. It was nice

Seen the Crystal Method and N.E.R.D (you know, Pharrel Im-writing-songs-for-Madonna Williams & co). Doesn't care that much about them, but it was free, so I went there with my bro who was running around and taking pics. Crystal Method have some nice breakbeaty songs, but live they're kinda underwhelming, especially when half of their music suddenly dissapears thanks to the malfunctioning software on their laptop. Also they screw'd up the "keep hope alive" (that's actually rather cool song) a bit with some weirdly unsynchronized sounds. Highlight of the gig was synthesizer tossed over the stage at the end of the show. N.E.R.D was sort of ok (hey, they have two drummers, cool), but billion of climaxing underage girls in the audience provided too much of a distraction.

Oh, and seen Groove Armada. But it was bit meh for me.

Gonna see God is An Astronaut tomorrow, I expect to be fairly entertained.

This Sunday I have Esoterica, then at the end of the month Illuminatus, then next month I have Ted Maul twice, then Illuminatus again, and November I have Breed 77 loads of times and The Butterfly Effect.

Yeah...it's pretty repetitive, but I don't like actually paying for gigs...

Gonna see God is An Astronaut tomorrow, I expect to be fairly entertained.

I feel entertained, it rocked. Supports were rad as well, especially locals from Tides From Nebula, who sounded perfect, Caspian weren't bad either, especially their outro, when entire band blasted crap out of the drums. GIAA live sounds somewhat louder and nastier than I'd expect after listening to the studio tracks, but still very atmospheric. Videos projected behind the band are nice touch, gave pleasantly bizarre feeling to the show and were nicely set to music - i.e. louder bits were punctuated by footage of nuclear explosions or noisy (very noisy) coda to Route 666 when the videos of teleevangelists turned to full-on satanic imagery with pentagrams and shit. Band encored twice, ending the evening with Caspian dudes on stage doing their thing with the drums again (and looking mighty confused at that, I think GIAA drummer was fucking with em).

I'm was pretty surprised by the attendance as well, didn't know so many people listens to instrumental post-rocking sort of things.

I saw them a week ago, it was a good show but a bit short. Only an hour and 15 minutes!

Oh and the Dutch support act, Atlantis, sucked big donkey balls.

Great band with cheesey rock songs, like to be embraced from the past AT first I thought I will not survive it, but anyway, Paul Gilbert is a real shred master and he is funny and entertaining to watch. He seems to enjoy playing his stuff like a child. Without him and the energetic Billy Sheehan it would not work.
Eric Martin gets drowned within these superheroes somehow, his voice was ok though. Pat Torpey is a rock solid drummer, great performance. But the best part was, when the singer left the band for one piece, great vocal hamonies from Paul, Pat and Billy!
They played two hours, and it was a great value of notes/minute

now go and call metal police to arrest me

Edguy was incredible. They DIDN'T play Mysteria, and they were still incredible. They were fucking awesome. The crowd was fucking awesome. No douchebags. NONE. All the opening bands were great. Edguy were fun, and I got this shirt:

i saw GZA on friday night. amazing gig. he was by himself onstage and didn't need a hype man or anyone backing him up. it was intense. he played all of Liquid Swords and then a shitload of other stuff including Wu-Tang Clan stuff. amazing gig. i wish i took some photos

These days, I'm so broke I only hit gigs if I'm working them. Ick.

After the Burial, Born of Osiris, and All Shall Perish.

All absolutely perfect live. They sound just like their albums and play everything note for note. After the Burial was probably the most impressive. Though the fact that I was in the same room as Tosin fucking Abasi was pretty daunting. He is using his custom 7 string live with Born of Osiris now. He did a little shredding before the set and just fucking put every other guitarist there to shame, even the dude from All Shall Perish who was shredding his ass off.
