Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

I just think Porcelain Heart is very uninspired, it's boring, and it doesn't sound like Opeth. The acoustic breakdown was all too typical and predictable. Porcelain Heart is probably one of my least favorite Opeth songs. Fredrik has really brought nothing good to the band. He brought that oh so typical shredding aspect that so many kids today seem to love. His soloing is only good sometimes. Burden has some decent solos, but he just doesn't have the feel that Peter had.

Damnation happens to be one of my favorite albums of theirs as a matter of fact!

I see. I suppose that if Opeth ever had like a radio-friendly song, it might be that one. That would never ever happen, but you know what I mean, right? It's one of the softer, less intense songs I guess.

With that being said... I still love it :]
Oh snap I wouldn't have assumed that you would've liked Damnation all that much :) Awesome! I'm curious as to what a 'rank your favorite Opeth CD' poll would look like =O

Shows:
Just twiddling my thumbs until PJ Harvey, and hopefully a Prog. Nation 2009 show. And Porcupine Tree for sure. I can't believe I have to wait til September to bask in Colin Edwin's glow though :(

What have I got to do with this? Keep me out of your fecking arguments, Alucard!

I know your stance on Opeth!

My favorite albums, DsD? My Arms comes first, followed by Blackwater Park then probably Still Life. I'd put Deliverance and Damnation together in 4th :P

I do like Opeth. It's just that Ghost Reveries was crap and Watershed doesn't do anything for me. And I love Damnation.

Just stop dragging me into discussions I have nothing to do with. If I want to participate, I will. I can do that on my own.

In your opinion.

Well yeah. But for a change, I'm not the only one with this controversial opinion! :P

I love most of Ghost Reveries. There are a few songs I do dislike, a few of the slower songs on GR are really generic. Lopez's best drumming in my opinion too.

And Biert, I only bring you in for laughs!

I actually don't have Ghost Reveries - what's it like? More on the heavy, more on the melodic? Mix of both? I've been meaning to score it for forever now

Cool. Where does Watershed come into that list? I burnt Blackwater Park for this dude I know who was trying to get into Opeth, and he hasn't brought it up since :?
This dude's into Chili Peppers, and Kanye though... so I probably should've known better. I warned him though!

Ghost Reveries is hated by many because the production is very different, and yeah, it could be better. It's very heavy on the synth. I hadn't listened to GR in ages until a few months ago but it's really a great album. It's especially awesome to listen to in summer, not quite sure why but I just love listening to it when the sun is shining.

Watershed is up there. I love some of the songs(The Lotus Eater is probably in my top 5 favorite Opeth songs)

Ghost Reveries is a good mix of everything. More on the heavy side, but it has its melodic moments. Ghost Of Perdition is by far one of the best songs Mikael has ever written. Ever.

Hm, that actually sounds like something I'd like. I don't mind heaviness on the keyboards, that's what makes a band like OSI really work. :) Gotta get this CD ASAP.

Cool. Cool.
The Lotus Eater is insane. Watershed gets heavy rotation; I especially like the mix of heavy and melodic songs, which seems to have turned some people off. But Hex Omega wins, I don't care what people say.

OSI DIDN'T always work. Blood is their first fully consistent album, I'd say.

WWWHHHAAAATTTT? Well say what you will, but that's your own opinion, of which I personally disagree with :? I happen to love all the OSI CD's, and in my opinion they're all consistent, strong albums. I also feel that Blood is fucking outstanding, but so are the albums that preceded it.
I would like to see Kevin Moore get some more cred for his mystical keyboard sorcery.

I never said I didn't love them all as well. It's just they're not really a consistent band before blood. Most of Kevin Moore's mystical keyboard sorcery is on Chroma Key. OSI's first album had some good tracks (shutDOWN MAY be their best), but then it had some utter failures. And Free was not as bad as everyone said it was, but it wasn't great, and was inconsistent. Blood is the first album that's a great sound all the way through. You have to remember that the first album was basically Kevin Moore organizing Jim Matheos' jams (With fucking Mike Portnoy and SEAN MALONE, the best bassist ever), and the second was Kevin Moore being a control freak.

On Blood they can actually sound like a band. On the first two, they sound more like... a supergroup (Which is a bad thing)

No I don't doubt that you love them, I'm actually glad there are other OSI fans round here. I think the CD's are consistent, you don't.. it's all good. Do you know how many Chroma Key CD's there were? I only have Dead Air for Radios, and that CD rules. I totally agree that ShutDOWN is brilliant, and not just cuz of Steven Wilson. Kevin Moore lays it down heavy.

I get a feeling that Blood sounds a little fuller than the other two, I mean, not by leaps and bounds; but all the songs on Blood are ... ripped, beefy. There are so many layers and layers which all work really well together IMO. And I like all the featured artists quite a bit. So anyways... Blood gets my two thumbs up. I wish OSI would do live stuff, but it doesn't look like that happening, it seems Kevin Moore likes his privacy
