Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

amon amarth last wednesday

and while sonic syndicate we're quite horrible, himsa was alright, managing to get some rise out of the crowd a little
but people we're there for melodic death, viking themed badassery

and they got what they wanted
a packed show, with intense pit, great balcony view as well
the band was great and very energetic, except the rhythm guitarist who seemed to be a bit off or tired
also a little too much distortion, but otherwise it was great
mostly played songs from fate of norns, versus the world, and with oden on our side

it was awesome to see the crowd movement, and i was rushed/squashed on the stage the second the first song

Only been to a few gigs this year... Tool and Porcupine Tree were cool.

Off to see the Wildhearts on the 21st - what a way to start the festive period! :D

Dream Theater
Festival Hall, Melbourne.

Setlist:

Constant motion
Panic attack
Endless sacrifice
Surrounded (extended)
Dark eternal night
Forsaken
As I am
Take the time
-----------------------------
Overture 1928
Strange deja vu
Through my words
Fatal tragedy
Erotomania
Voices
The spirit carries on
In the presence of enemies pt 1
In the presence of enemies pt 2
---------------------------------------------
Encore
Medley featuring:
Trial of tears (with the intro to Rush "Xanadu" included)
Finally free
Learning to live
In the name of god
Octavarium

We'd been waiting over 20 years, and it was quite worth it.
All the band were in peak form (even LaBrie's voice held both the note and power flawlessly) and kept the big crowd involved all the way through the 3 1/2 hours.
Petrucci is a fucking magician, during one of his solos he seamlessly REPLACEed Gilmour's solo from Pink Floyd's "Mother", and the audience went nuts. :)
And Portnoy is the consummate showman. He threw himself into his drumming with so much energy, that he used the 5-minute standing ovation at the show's conclusion to collapse on the stage and get his breath back, before apologising for "taking so fucking long to get here!" and assuring us the next visit would not involve such a delay.

:amen:

I'm not a huge Dream Theater fan by any means, but this was probably the greatest live performance I've seen.

11/10.

I think they were actually freaked by how much support they have Down Under. 8)

The intro was a rather heavy version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra".
A good move for a huge 2001: A Space Odyssey fan such a I.

Sybreed at Zeppelin Hall in Poznan (feb 7th).

Event was just big bag of fail, organiser totally screwed up any promotion and there was maybe 100 people in venue (including bands and personnel, hur hur), and most of them sat on their arses and drank beer through sets. Fortunately some nice person on lastfm searched Sybreed fans and sent them info, without that they'd play to totally empty place. Also, band were playing over a working bar, wtf.

Supports actually weren't as bad as I expected, being somewhat stylistically compatible (metalcorish The Old Cinema and industrial metal Cruentus - these guys even played cover of "Cloud Connected" by In Flames, to applause of all of, like, 13 fans). Sybreed were impressive, even if bit spoiled by deaf soundguy and problems with monitors. Drop have one mighty right wrist and their new drummer is also quite a dude to play Dirk Verbeuren's parts. They played lots of stuff off Antares, there was Emma-0, Isolation, 12 Megaton Gravity and Permafrost to list my faves, and some stuff from their first album (which I bought after the gig), including mighty Bioactive. So thankfully it wasn't complete disaster and I didn't waste my two days off work taken to see them. And I have a T-shirt, yay.

OK, here's MULTIMEDIA part.

Moar crappy photos on my wankr (lighting was awful, it's a miracle that there's something half sharp on them):

Shit, the last big show we went to was Rob Zombie with Lacuna Coil back in April 2006. Wait, no, it was Tool in September of that year.

Verdict: It was a little lacklustre. I loved them back in '01 and especially in '02. Something was lacking from the set this time out. Maybe we were too far back. But my seats weren't great at their Montréal show in '01, either. Maybe it was the assholes throwing drinks during the last song, and the Staples Center ushers getting in the way as they tried to diffuse things. But I think something else was missing, too. It's probably that 26 minutes were wasted on "Wings/10,000" and "The Pot."

The Zombie/Lacuna show was awesome though.

I've also seen a cousin-in-law's band play a couple shows around town. They're called Aztlan Underground, and they've got some cool shit.

Iron Maiden (6th and 7th of Feb, 2008) Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, Australia.

One of the best shows ive been to in my whole entire life. Words can't describe how I felt when I saw them on stage. Been a fan for almost 9 years and they finally made it down to Australia. There were afew problems with sound on the first night, Bruce's mic kept on dropping out but by the second night everything was perfect. The crowd was alot more into it on the second night then the first, I believe that was due to more younger fans in attendance. The first night was still amazing, great atmosphere with the older generation of fans and just enjoying the music, simply awesome.

Setlist:
Intro (Churchill's speech)
Aces High
2 Minutes to Midnight
Revelations
The Trooper
Wasted Years
Number of the Beast
Run to the Hills
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Powerslave
Heaven Can Wait
Can I Play with Madness?
Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden

Encore:
Moonchild
The Clairvoyant
Hallowed Be Thy Name

After the second show me and some mates went to the hotel which Maiden were staying at and we found out they were heading a pub not far from where we were. We rocked up to the pub around 15 mins after the show finished and they were already there, their pretty quick to leave the venue once the last song was played. I got to meet Steve Harris, Janick Gers and Dave Murray. Bruce had to go to bed early cos he had to fly the plane to Sydney the next day, we didn't know what happened to Adrian or Nicko but they were at the pub after the first show finished. It was an amazing 2 days, can't wait to see Maiden again next year...rumor has it that they'll be doing Big Day Out 09'.

Also to add I put together a meet up before both shows, we had a massive turn out and had fans from all over the world rock up. The film crew from Banger Productions, the same people who made "Metal - A Headbangers Journey" found out about my meet up and asked if they could film it. Was awesome, I also got to meet Sam Dunn which was pretty cool.

10/10 :D

Here are some photos I took, I'll have to upload more tomorrow.

My 12-year old little brother just called me and told he is going to see Iron Maiden. It'll be the first band he ever saw live. He was so excited that I had to hold my phone over 15cm's from my head to not to get headache :D
